The deadly heat wave that roasted the Pacific Northwest and western Canada was virtually impossible without human-caused climate change that added a few extra degrees to the record-smashing temperatures, a new quick scientific analysis found.
An international team of 27 scientists calculated that climate change increased chances of the extreme heat occurring by at least 150 times, but likely much more.
The study, not yet peer-reviewed, said that before the industrial era, the region’s late June triple-digit heat was the type that would not have happened in human civilization. And even in today’s warming world, it said, the heat was a once-in-a-millennium event.

so if it’s climate change it will stay Hot all year round ,LOL
Yesterday and today we’re having man made global cooling here in the NW. I’ve got a light jacket on.
The earliest comments from climate experts suggested that climate change was not involved. They said that the heatwave was a once-in-a 10,000-year event (much like a 10,000-year flood). Now, they are changing their tune and adding climate change as a factor. It’s fake news.
That sounds like Joe Bastardi’s argument. I love it.
Some academic’s promotion & tenure hearing was threatened if he did get on the Climate Panic train !
The Dust Bowl of the 30s was not caused by too many Model As and Ts on the freeways... or was it? :-|
27 drunks decide to make the ‘nooz’
a much more appropriate headline title
Wow this is serious. Tell us AP, what man made issue happened in the 2020 pandemic where EVERYTHING was shut down (and still is in Canada) that caused this? Nergy consumption dropped last year, impacting travel mostly. Where did this man made holocost occur when nothing was going on.
27 authors are college professors trying to get their climate research grants renewed.
Good points!
Yep, if we had the back story and truth it would be called, good journalism.
you’re not allowed to ask for the methodology of their calculations. doing so makes you a climate change denier. Yet any real scientist is going to start with these questions on how they arrived at their “consensus,” even though science is never about consensus. Its about empirical data obtained by using the scientific method of proposing a hypothesis and then determining via experimentation and data that the hypothesis is correct or not correct. Frequently the process is repeated with variations until the hypothesis is correct.
And they wonder why no one really believes them.
It is 75 today in eastern Iowa.
We haven’t had a 100 degree streak for a long time, or a single 100 degree day for a few years.
To be honest, the growing season is getting shorter as thaw and last frost happen later and later.
But we are not an important state so no one cares.
More bovine scat.
Sounds like a lot of hot air.
121 degrees in the shade in British Columbia, Canada which beat the all time Canada maximum temp going back 150 years by 8 degrees is unprecedented! All time national maximum temps are rarely beaten and usually beaten by one degree or less. Beating a long standing national high temp record by 8 degrees is unheard of!
BTW, the all time high temp of Phoenix Arizona going back to 1895 is 122.
Portland Oregon exceeded their all time high temp by 9 degrees with their high of 116. For perspective, the all time high for Las Vegas is 117.
Here, Educate yourself:
...but we will write an article about it - AP
Except Portland’s temp merely tied the 1965 temp.
Urban heat island effect.
I was born into a state with 1M people that now has 6M. All that concrete, roofing and cars retain and generate a lot more heat.
