If China invades Taiwan, Tokyo may interpret the move as a "threat to Japan's survival" and deploy the Self-Defense Forces to exercise collective self-defense, Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso said Monday.

"If a major incident happened [in Taiwan], it would not be strange at all if it touches on a situation threatening survival," Aso said during a speech in Tokyo. "If that is the case, Japan and the U.S. must defend Taiwan together."

Aso, who also serves as finance minister, is one of four cabinet members who sit on Japan's National Security Council.

Japan's deputy prime minister noted that "the situation over Taiwan is becoming extremely intense," referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping's comments about the self-ruled island during a speech last week to commemorate the Communist Party's 100-year anniversary.

The Chinese should take note: the Imperial Japanese Army still knows its way around China.

Partner, we can not let the Chicoms have everything free that we have built.

Ever since that "Dawg" Bill Clinton was POTUS the Chicoms have been getting everything from the U.S. The Chicoms are in Space right now with American know how.

I am still waiting for the Chicoms to come up with the $$$$ for Hong Kong. Maybe they never intended to pay a dime.

The Chicoms believe they do not have to pay for anything.

If he expects the Biden regime to take any kind of action against their Chinese masters he’s sorely mistaken. Taiwan knows they’re in a world of trouble now that Trump is out of office.

Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan.

My son visited Taiwan a couple years ago. He met an elderly lady, his friend’s grandmother, who remembered the Japanese occupation of the island. Unlike some places with very bitter memories of Japanese occupation, the Taiwanese rather preferred the Japanese rule and some would have preferred to become part of Japan. I do not know how widespread that opinion is.
