I’ve tracked Fake News all the way back to 1890’s with the infiltration of many Western Countries by key people in the early march to Communism.
Ernest Hemingway was the first person I have documented being used by the communists to create “Fake News” so he could save his economic future.
He Lied to the world about the Spanish Civil War and failed to admit he was in active communication with key Communists to promote their agenda.

He is probably correct. The last time we had even a gesture of unity was right after 9/11. Bush had 90% approval for months even as democrats in Congress had begun to undermine.

Pearl Harbor was an earlier example. Democrats and Republicans alike lined up down the street waiting to enlist.
From the end of WW II through the 80’s, with the Cold War on, there was an overarching principle of foreign relations, often violated but always honored in the breach, that “politics stopped at the water’s edge.”
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and soon the Soviet regime, that unified exoskeleton was fragmented by partisan animosities and agendas. Since then it has been all downhill.
