The number of serious coronavirus cases in Israel has risen by almost 50 percent since last week, Health Ministry data released on Sunday showed, as the delta variant continues to spread across the country.
According to the Health Ministry, 326 new COVID cases were diagnosed on Friday and 185 on Saturday, with the number of serious cases currently standing at 35 – 11 more than the number reported last Sunday. Within this group, 17 are in critical condition and 16 are on ventilators.
Fourteen of the 35 cases defined as serious have received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.

Last Thursday 307 cases in Israel with the media headline 58 percent of the cases unvaccinated.
I turned that around when I wrote the story on my news summary to be 42 percent of the cases Thursday in Israel were in some way vaccinated.

Evidence of how effective the vaccination program is. Compare the size of the pool of people who have been vaccinated to the nonvaccinated. 14 of the 35 serious cases came from the vaccinated pool. 21 of the 35 came from the nonvaccinated pool. A very stark contrast - overwhelmingly so.

How is this showing how effective the program is??
I don’t know the statistical definition of a “stark contrast,” but in this case, I would not call 40% a stark contrast—40% not small number ~ one or 2 more patients admitted, and we are at 50%. This concerns me—especially when the media, fauci, biden administration, etc. are all saying that if you get the variant after being vaccinated, it will be milder case!
Non-serious cases are surging in a country that supposedly was a world leader* had it under control, etc. but cases are now surging...How many of those “non-serious” cases were from people who got the shots??? I have not found article stating that stat yet...
*As of March 15, 50% of population was fully vaccinated 60% first dose, whereas US only 12% and 21% respectively.

But really, are they the posterchild for total vaccination with surging cases?
Forgive me, but with what seems to be a mess going on in Israel with surging numbers, set to reach 1,000/day in 10 days, since you did not specify, I didn’t know you were referring to their stats as “vaccine is looking pretty good.” There were no links to charts of the death rates for Israel that I saw, and I like links.
Anyway, I find it very disturbing that 14 out of 35 serious cases are from people who received 2 shots...a couple more patients admitted, and the stat goes above 50%. And as I stated in another post, I would like to see the demographics on the “serious cases” patients—ages, co-morbidities, etc. as well as how many of the vented are people who received 2 shots.
That said, again I ask, is Israel now the posterchild for vaccinations? This article states cases are surging... If the vaccines are effective against the Indian strain, then what is the cause of the surge?? Israel is already at close to 60% adults fully jabbed...with teens lining up as well. So why the surge?? What is the cause?
Articles being put online today in the US are stating that PFE, MRNA, and J&J are protecting against the Indian variant (tho there are lots of “wiggle” words in these articles), so why the surge in Israel now??
I will be watching Israel’s stats...Both serious and non-serious cases. I wonder since non-serious cases are surging, will number of serious cases remain at 35? Please feel free to ping me on any relevant information that you find. Israel may be the canary in the coal mine...at least for me.
Why do I care? I have children and 4 grandkids (so far). If I am convinced that a vaccine is SAFE and EFFECTIVE, I will drive them all to the doctor myself and then take them to their favorite restaurant for dinner of their choice... However, at this time, I have yet to be convinced that any of the vaccines fit the bill.

I recall reading, weeks ago....to watch Israel, as they ramped up their shot numbers....for serious adverse effects.

Honestly tracking numbers? I have read that the PCR test machine alters the rates...depending on if testing those vaccinated vs unvaccinated here in US. I have read/heard that the VEARS adverse event reporting system (as inaccurate as it is) is being eliminated...If these facts are true, how can we trust what is being presented in the US? I only hope that Israel has a more honest/transparent reporting system.
I hope some of the experts that have discussed ADE/Virus escape will specifically address the surge in Israel.

It was only about a month ago that I became convinced the vaccines were great.
Took a year of date showing it.
My initial response was not to trust it.
I assume you missed the press conference of what happen to that teen who got the shot. Or the 18 yr old who got a heart attack from it. There is 0 reason to give kids this shot.
Vaccines are working better than expected. Of course nothing is 100%. Pfizer and Moderns are both around 95% effective. So there you go. That means 5% of the time, it wont be effective (usually mild cases opposed to hospitalizations or deaths)
True, but it is the case that some people will not get any or only minor benefit from vaccination (any vacciantion).
A few weeks ago it was reported that some 50% of seriously ill patients at the University Hopspital in Stockholm, Sweden were fully vaccinated. Horror!
However, when I spoke to a colleague who was working at the hospital he told me that the majority of thsoe patients were either on immunosupressant medication (autoimmune disease, organ transplants), or cancer patients (cytostatics) or very old persons with weakened immune systems.
PS: The Spanish Flu is probably not the best analogue to the present pandemic. In 1889 - 1890 the world suffered from another pandemic; the Russian flu. About one million people perished around the world (mostly elderly) out of a total population of 1.5 billion. The "flu" returned a couple of times over the next 4 years, and then disappeared. Recent research indicate that this also was a Corona-virus, although it remains to be fully determined.
