As a result, vaccinated people may have a hard time weighing the risks of returning to normal social activities or knowing what to expect should they develop a rare breakthrough case.
In a recent blog post for Harvard Health Publishing, Robert Shmerling, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, called the CDC's decision not to track all breakthrough cases "surprising" and "disappointing."
"By tracking only cases requiring hospitalization or causing death, we may miss the chance to learn how people with 'milder' disease are affected by Delta or other variant infections, such as how long their symptoms last and how the infection may disrupt their lives," Shmerling told Insider.
He added that the US could also miss important information about which vaccines are most effective against Delta, how long vaccine protection against the variant lasts, and whether the timing of a second vaccine dose might determine one's likelihood of a breakthrough case.
The CDC told Insider that in a substantial proportion of reported breakthrough cases, data on symptoms is missing, "which is one reason why CDC is publicly reporting hospitalized and fatal cases."

Not surprising. It’s been evident for quite some time that they define the goal, then gather or produce and publish the statistics needed to herd the sheeple in desired directions. In fact, it’s happening in every aspect of life it seems. Data mucking up the process? Dump it, cancel it or destroy it.
They got so much momentum in this tactic in the last few years it boggles the mind.
They stopped collecting data on H1N1 when it became inconvenient on Bammy’s watch.
Neither link says anything about tracking Delta “in general.”
It can't track what is not gathered.
The “Delta Variant” is number “B.1.617.2”. Being tracked.

Thank you for offering links supporting Delta being tracked, but it still does not support it is covering Delta infections in vaccinated people who do not go to the hospital.
The main article is correct.
If they don’t need to go to the hospital then “Delta” is about the same as “Alpha”. ;-)
Not sure why the obsession with the stats. I get up, go to work... live a normal life without clinging to COVID stats. Silly me.. we’re all gonna die anyway before the end of the world due to global warming.

I disagree that the stats have been crap from the start. Certainly they suffer from inconsistency - China's numbers are pure fiction, the definition of a "case" has varied over time as has a fatality. But there have been enhancements and improvements whereby meaning HAS been obtainable.
This is a fairly contagious - about 10% of the nation got it - but not too lethal - 98.2% survival rate - virus. The virus was unusual....it could kill you several ways and had long-term impacts on survivors...why, it's almost as if it was made to be like that. It was extremely lethal for the elderly (one in five people over 85 who had it died with COVID19 on their death certificate). Certainly it caused (was used to cause...?) more mayhem than the stats would indicate were necessary, and the way the governors colossally screwed it up on the elderly is worthy of criminal indictments. Finally, thanks to Rand Paul, Fauci et al helped fund this biohazard.
I find the data, warts and all, to be PROOF of the tragedy that was the pandemic. The CDC's continued fudging of the numbers (which smart people can overcome) tells me they realized that the data they published to scare us is also being used to reveal the farcical dimensions of this saga. It's like numeric judo.
One final point, which I don't think the CDC et al considered. A classical education was intended to make the student able to better understand the world, even if the student has a specialty. Since 1918 there have been tens of millions of Americans who've received advanced degrees that helped nurture (in many instances) the innate curiosity in mankind. Even the undegreed people have, over the past 30 years in particular, become more interested and aware of the world beyond their front yard. God's gift of free will, topping off those degrees and curiosity - and, in America, mixed with self-determination, individualism, and love for one's family - resulted in millions of rabid classical liberal Americans who weaponized these skills and gifts to push back hard against the statists. I truly believe they did NOT expect millions of Americans to download data from GitHub, read articles in the Lancet, NEJM, Science, and explain to others that the narrative was fake and just WTF was happening. The hate that dripped from the mouths of governors, CNN etc, and Mask and Shutdown Nancys (and now the bullying of the unvaccinated) was them blinking...when your opponent loses it, you're over target.
True, Trump isn't President, 600k+ Americans are dead and thousands of parents and grandparents died alone thanks to government rules. And now the Delta Variant is the latest boogie man. Satan never sleeps... but neither does God. Anyone can land a sucker punch, but it ain't over till it's over.
I am no prophet, but I predict many more lockdowns in the fall/winter 2021/2022 in the USA…
…unless a crapton of people die, i mean REALLY die, the only lockdowns will prevent travel, .but the genie is out of the bottle. Masked sheeple may persist but even the Karens i know are not going to stay home.

I'm not surprised at the massive numbers of Americans that have just blindly followed along with all this as if the feral government were speaking the gospel, but I am disappointed.
At this point, I don't see how anyone can take any of this seriously.
