President Joe Biden announced on Friday that he was nominating Amy Gutmann to serve as US ambassador to Germany.
Gutmann, who is the president of the University of Pennsylvania, is also the daughter of a Holocaust survivor.
Gutmann's father escaped Nazi Germany in 1934, according to a 2013 interview in The Daily Pennsylvanian.
... Her family history inspired her to help establish one of the world's largest Holocaust education archives, Haaretz reported. She partnered with the University of Southern California Shoah Foundation Institute's Visual History Archive in 2013 to bring nearly 52,000 video testimonials to the University of Pennsylvania's library system, the outlet said.

“...student protesters concerned about the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, disrupted a holiday party for students at Gutmann’s home. As a gesture of support for the students’ cause, Gutmann joined them in lying on the ground...”

This crap is pure lefty BS .
Why post this. utter bs from Far Lefty Business insider .
A dem pr site .
Do you get to call yourself a Holocaust survivor if you get out of Germany seven years before it began?
Isn’t this the chic who gave Biden close to $1,000,000?
BusinessInsider.
Shall I read this with tongue-in-cheek mindset?
Uhm…hate to be a downer….
But Kristallnacht wasn’t even until 1938.
There was no “Holocaust” in 1934.
Escaped NAZI Germany, yes, but Holocaust is putting on the sympathy violins a bit much.
So what are the Germans saying about this?
Biden did not “choose “ anyone,
This cadaver is not even alive.
From Wiki:
Holocaust historians commonly define the Holocaust as the genocide of the European Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1941 and 1945.-——
The story says, “father escaped Nazi Germany in 1934.”
I would not call her father a survivor. They fled 6 years before it really go going. He was apparently a child.
Holocaust ‘survivor’ or Holocaust ‘avoider’?
Now I’m hearing that Holocaust basically covers ALL NAZI regime in Germany, regardless of policies on Jews.
Seems a bit loose, but whatever.
thank you...
Gosh, this should help keep Germany in the fold!
Russian oil lookin’ better all the time...finish that pipeline!
Donald J. Trump is the first graduate of the (Ivy League) University of Pennsylvania, founded before the American Revolution by Benjamin Franklin, to have become President of the United States. Other Ivies such as Yale and Columbia have produced several Presidents. Three of Trump’s children were also Penn grads: Don Jr, Ivanka and Tiffany.
Yet there was a complete news blackout about his election in the Penn Gazette, UPenn’s slick, full-color bi-monthly alumni magazine, in spite of the objections frequently voiced by alumni in Letters to the Editor.
The Gazette did run an article quoting Amy Gutman’s emotion-laden disapproval of Trump’s plans to limit immigration. Disgusting.
> There was no “Holocaust” in 1934. <
I caught that as well. It is a fair thing to say that Gutmann’s father escaped Nazi oppression. But to say that he is a Holocaust survivor is (to use a WW II saying), a bridge too far.
William Henry Harrison studied medicine there for a few months, but did not graduate.
