Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg has proposed a "right to housing" as the California homeless crisis continues to grow more severe.

The state has around 161,000 people struggling with homelessness, and the state’s leadership is coming up short with answers. As the most populous state, California has the highest number of homeless people, according to government statistics: The state also boasts the fourth-highest rate of homeless per capita in the U.S.

Steinberg announced a plan Wednesday, during his State of the City address, that he believes will help his city and the state at large to better tackle the crisis: A "right to housing" along with an "obligation" for homeless people to accept shelter when offered.

Is he going to drag them in and lock them in?

How many of these addicts want to be in a home?

Will there be rules for access or continued occupancy?

There shouldn't be any new homeless with the eviction prohibition in place.

What are the considerations in siting these new accommodations?

Homeless around Sac would rather live on the riverbanks and start vegetation fires

In other news the Biden administration is flying immigrants into the area only to find they hadn’t made any housing arrangements.

Give the homeless free housing and they will destroy it very quickly. In three months, the housing will be unfit for habitation.

People won’t go to shelters, but they assume they will live in a home given to them. Better yet why not provide everyone with a job. I am sure all the homeless would be happy to work if given a job.

Hypothetically, someone could rent a bus and take a load of homeless people to the governors house and drop them off, no?

LBJ launched the “War on Poverty.” Many of the high rise projects he caused to be built had to be bulldozed and those remaining should be. High crime centers.

Democrat Party statism - you have the “right” to be forced into housing.

Here’s an idea - why don’t they establish institutions where the homeless can be housed, fed, and be given proper medical attention? So much more humane than letting them fend for themselves on the street.

I heard someone say there is plenty of housing available for homeless. And he said,if everyone with a spare bedroom in a house took in a homeless person, the problem would.be solved, because everyone would have a home.

Every state in the U.S. used to have state mental hospitals which is where most of these people belong. That was cruel, they said. The current mess is better? Many of these people cannot function in society and free housing alone is not going to solve that problem.

We used to have housing.

They were called insane asylums and prisons. That would take care of about 85% of the “homeless” population.
