Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis never asked former President Donald Trump to postpone a rally in Sarasota scheduled for Saturday, his office told the Daily Caller News Foundation Wednesday.
“Governor DeSantis is focusing on his duties as Governor and the tragedy in Surfside, and has never suggested or requested that events planned in different parts of Florida — from the Stanley Cup finals to President Trump’s rally — should be canceled,” DeSantis’ office said in the statement to the DCNF.
“He wants all Floridians to enjoy the holiday weekend and celebrate Independence Day however they choose, while keeping the Surfside families and first responders in their prayers,” the statement said.
An article from the Washington Examiner had quoted anonymous sources saying DeSantis’ office “made a direct plea” to Trump’s team to postpone the rally in light of the ongoing search-and-rescue mission at the site of the collapsed Surfside condo building.
“The governor is completely focused on this whole disaster in Surfside, but Florida’s a big state. There’s a lot going on. He does not find it wrong or disrespectful or anything like that to be doing a rally,” a person close to DeSantis’ office told the DCNF.

If Trump were to cancel the event, they’d accuse him of causing the tragedy.
But then they already have.
Knowing Trump and us, I would imagine a large part of the rally will be prayers for the victims. If Trump had been recognized as truly won 45, the building collapse would have somehow been blamed on him, and his complete lack of response with FEMA.
How long should FL should shut down for?
A week, two, three, four? A year?
Maybe a moment of silence and some fund raising could take place for the survivors of the tragedy.

Sarasota is on the complete opposite side of the state from Surfside. Trump’s rally will have no effect on the rescue efforts in Surfside.
Exactly. We have the Lightning in the Stanley Cup finals. The Rays still playing ball along with the Miami Marlins who are 20 miles from Surfside.

The “Washington Examiner” is considered “conservative” so this is a RINO hit job IMHO.
Florida shouldn’t be “shut down” as you say, at all. I didn’t remotely suggest it. I am referring only to the rally being held by Trump- to show respect.
