The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday the U.S. government has the right to indefinitely detain some immigrants, the Associated Press reported.
Over the dissent of three liberal justices, the court held 6-3 that immigrants are not entitled to a hearing about whether they should be released while the government evaluates their claims...
...Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the court's majority opinion that "those aliens are not entitled to a bond hearing."
The case stems from an immigration officer's determination that the immigrants had a "reasonable fear" for their safety if returned to their countries, setting in motion an evaluation process that can take months or years.
The issue for the court was whether the government could hold the immigrants without having an immigration judge weigh in.
Alito, in his opinion for the court, wrote that the administration's argument that the relevant provision does not provide for a bond hearing was more persuasive....

Of course law enforcement should be allowed to detain people who they have probable cause are breaking immigration law. Even as a layman I know that’s a well established threshold for detainmemt. Why was it even a case?
I wonder how long it will be before the AMERICAN CITIZENS who have been illegally and indefinitely detained in DC for their mere presence in the capital on Jan 6th will have THEIR case heard???
These illegals at least had their day in court.
American citizens who committed no crime on the 6th are currently rotting in a prison somewhere in DC, and have not been charged with a crime.

My question is: does the Constitution apply to American Citizens only, or to all within the legal boundaries of the country? More specifically, the law-abiding within those boundaries?
Biden will thwart the court. All he has to do is limit the number of beds available and they will have to let them bail out or simply be released with a future court/check-in date.
Worked for ICE 2012-14. Suddenly we had to cut lose several hundred, maybe a thousand illegal aliens across the nation because the money for the beds was being manipulated.
I can’t name names, but a few critters have been crawling down the DOJ’s shirt about it.

Under the precepts of the Declaration of Independence, our rights come from God, not the State. Every person, citizen or not, has those rights.
Being in this country is a right for those born on our land, naturalized, or born to citizens abroad. For everyone else, it is a privilege.
Adjudicating a privilege is not in the same realm as adjudicating a right. The SCOTUS affirmed that the process can be truncated, if need be, for those abusing the privilege of being on American soil.
All apparently they have the right to hold Americans indefinitely, why not illegal aliens?
I think all of a sudden, “refugees” will have a chNge of tune regarding fear of being indefinite confinement istead of catch and release.

Some of these people MIGHT be criminals fleeing from justice in their own country. In their cases, they should be housed at GITMO to keep them from committing crimes in the US.
The fact that immigration courts/officers are overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of illegals coming into the US is NOT OUR FAULT, per se. It is the fault of the Biden Administration’s cowardice to enforce the law and finish building the effective “wall”, leftist judges who are releasing criminals back onto the streets, courts/judges who handcuff law enforcement officials from doing their jobs, drug smuggling gangs/cartels, and Americans who aid them.
