Russian warplanes repeatedly flew low over a Dutch navy frigate in the Black Sea last week and carried out “mock attacks,” the Defense Ministry of the Netherlands said Tuesday.

The incident involving the Dutch ship Zr. Ms. Evertsen happened last Thursday southeast of Crimea, the ministry said in a statement.

It came a day after after Russia said one of its warships in the Black Sea fired warning shots and a warplane dropped bombs to force a British destroyer out of an area near Crimea that Russia claims as its territorial waters. Britain denied that account and insisted its ship wasn’t fired upon.

The Evertsen has been patrolling in the Black Sea with HMS Defender, the British ship that was involved in that incident.

Defense Minister Minister Ank Bijleveld-Schouten called the Russian actions “irresponsible.”

I think they want the incident so they can say to the world:

“Look Russia Bad!”

Putin has spent over 20 years modernizing the Russian military, while we were busy with Drag Queen shows...we’re about to find out which policy was smarter.

> What is the Dutch navy doing next to Russia other than trying to provoke it and receiving a low flight in response? <

This is getting more bizarre by the day. The Dutch navy has no business being in the Black Sea, other than to provoke Russia (as you noted).

So I wonder what’s next. Maybe Peru will send a gunboat into the Black Sea.

Well there is the small difference of Lake Superior being within the sovereign territories of the US and Canada.

“They have a total of 59 ships from what I researched.”

Did they count lifeboats?

The 1989 USA-USSR Joint Statement on the Uniform Interpretation of Rules of International Law Governing Innocent Passage confirms that:

All ships, including warships …, enjoy the right of innocent passage through the territorial sea in accordance with international law, for which neither prior notification nor authorization is required.

What is the Dutch navy doing next to Russia

Apparently the Dutch Frigate was behaving. Ruskies overreacted.

"However, the Dutch account indicates that the Evertsen was in international waters, outside of the territorial waters around Crimea that are claimed by both Russia and Ukraine. That is in contrast to HMS Defender, which was within around 10 nautical miles of the Crimean coast, albeit in what the British government described as an “internationally recognized traffic separation corridor."

The Dutch were so brutal in their colonizing of the East Indies they make the British look like Mr. Rogers. Never hear on peep of protesting over that.

So is the Dutch objective in this situation? To provoke Russia>

Crimea is part of Russia and those there want to be part of Russia. There is no chance the Russians would give up Crimea without fighting a war. It's time for NATO, neo-cons and globalists to move on.

Well lets face it, Putin does for Russia what Trump was trying to do for the US and I don’t blame him. Besides I don’t think it is such a good idea to antagonize Russia to begin with. If Russia would hold some naval exercises in the Gulf of Mexico I bet our planes would be right there to check it out as well. Besides it may not be a bad idea for the US to clean up their own act(s) and there are many which need to be cleaned up, before hey stick their nose into every one else business.

Not if it is a warship on an intelligence gathering mission, or if it is engaged in propaganda activity, or other purposes designed to provoke the country it is in the territorial waters of. Then it loses “innocent passage”. That’s right there in the treaty.

That was the openly stated purpose of this NATO patrol.

Indeed, how dare they enforce and secure their sovereign boundaries. The nerve of them!

(Obviously the disconnect comes from NATO still trying to pretend, 7+ years later, that Crimea is not Russian territory. For the record, Crimea is Russia and will never be Ukraine again).

Behave? Two different NATO countries violated their sovereign borders with ******* warships. If a response is not warranted then, when would it ever be warranted?

Agreed. The Dutch ship was not yet in violation of the borders, but at the time of the flyover, was on a course that would have shortly put it in violation.
