The United Nations Human Rights Council has urged global action including reparations to "make amends" for racism against people of African descent.
Its new report also urges educational reform and apologies to address discrimination.
The findings cite concerns in about 60 countries including the UK, Belgium, France, Canada, Brazil and Colombia.
In a statement on Monday, UN high commissioner for human rights Michelle Bachelet called "on all states to stop denying - and start dismantling - racism" and to "listen to the voices of people of African descent".
The UN's report is based on discussions with more than 300 experts and people of African descent and seeks to push nations to take actions to end racial injustices.
It found that police use of racial profiling and excessive force was systemic in much of North America, Europe and Latin America.
The report said racism was the biggest problem in countries associated with the former trade of many millions of Africans for slavery.
It praises Black Lives Matter and says the group should "receive funding, public recognition and support".
Ms Bachelet, a former president of Chile, said reparations must not only be financial in nature, but include other "guarantees" to prevent future injustices.
She said: "States must show stronger political will to accelerate action for racial justice, redress and equality through specific, time-bound commitments to achieve results.

Tell me, UNAMERICAN NATIONS, what 8s racism? What about blacks in South Africa attacking White South Africans and taking over their farms? Is that racism? Or is it only whites that can be racist?

You want reparations?
Then start with the Arabs/Islamists who were rounding them up for sale. Then go after the black slave owners who owned more slaves than the White owners. Then go after the real slave descendants to show by DNA that they were truly descended from slaves.
Let’s not pay for just anyone, but the truly effected slave descendants.
Next let’s determine who is still here descendants from slave owners, black or white. :
Let’s see who came to the US AFTER the Civil War had ended and NEVER EVER owned slaves b/c we are the ones who will be forced rot pay reparations for something we never participated in. Then disallow this of us from Jewish programs that escaped to America for freedom, and not only never owned slaves,. but were in forcer detention camps and forced poverty, all our possessions taken from us and forced to barely subsist.
For the elite who think they’ll never have to pay anything, let’s see how many of them descended from slave-owning families!
You want reparations, then go after the families who owned slaves, although by law they cannot be prosecuted for owning slaves b/c that period of time has expired! why do people who never pwned slaves have to pay and why do we have to pay people who were NEVER descendants of slaves?
This make about as much sense as making people who never took a cruise in their lives pay when a cruise ship is injured and has to return to it’s country of origin and be offloaded. Everybody is guilty in someway or another. NONSENSE!
If they believe in reparations, let the UN pay for them from its own budget. Otherwise, shut up and don’t tell other people what to do with their own money.
The way to solve the problem is to rid the earth of the human rights chief
