Oakland Diverts $17 Million From Police Budget
The Epoch Times ^ | 06/27/2021 | IVAN PENTCHOUKOV

The City Council of Oakland, California, approved a budget on June 24 that will redirect $17.4 million from its police department to other programs over the course of two years.

The Council voted 7–2 to adopt the plan, which will direct the funds to a violence prevention program, according to CBSN Bay Area. The council’s website wasn’t yet updated with the vote tally on June 27.

The funding diversion was approved amid a surge in violent crimes in the area, including a mass shooting at Lake Merritt the weekend before the vote.

Hey Biden! If you decide to use nukes or F-15s on your own country like you threatened. You may want to start here. As if Oakland wasn't already a dung hole. Anyone up for a terror ride through Oakland. Thinking of starting thrill seeking excursions into Detroit, Chicago, San Fran, Baltimore, Portland, Seattle. A liability disclaimer will be required and participants will be responsible for their own body armor and weaponry. We will however provide VPAM 13 transportation :-) Better than base jumps or parachuting for the thrill seeker in you! jk

What’s that spicy extra-extra that goes beyond a liberal hell hole?

OPD should not show up to city officials calls. Or drive there real slow and take the scenic route. Once you say to ban police, then you shouldn’t get their services.

In Minneapolis, the cops have been so cowed, that they are not allowed to pursue a car jacked car unless there was a weapon involved. Strong arm car jackings are on the rise.

Thanks lol. Totally agree about SNL. I stopped watching it in the early 90s. After Chevy Chase, Belushi, Akroyd and those folks were gone I wasn’t impressed. The 90s had a few decent skits but wasn’t worth wasting the time. I was busy chasing skirt.

“Defund the police” basically means “let the criminals do what they want” and also means “Crush the law-abiding citizens who make a mis-step”.

Personally, I’m at the point where I would be absolutely fine with “Defund the police” if it meant “law-abiding citizens can feel free to take out the trash without concern that charges will be filed”.

I really think things would be better.

First, defund/fire the cops and then, “Send in the social workers!”

FORBES -At Least 13 Cities Are Defunding Their Police Departments:*

At least 13 U.S. cities have cut funding from police department budgets or decreased officer numbers with several more in the process. As of last August: 2020/08/13/

Austin, Texas, was the latest city to announce a police defunding effort, with the City Council on Thursday voting unanimously to cut $150 million (roughly one third) from the police budget

Austin’s announcement closely follows the sweeping budget change approved by Seattle—a $3.5 million budget cut . The country’s two largest cities, New York and Los Angeles, approved budget cuts weeks after protests began—New York slashed $1 billion from its $5.6 billion operating budget while Los Angeles approved a $150 million budget cut from its budget. Also in California, San Francisco approved a $120 million cut to the police and sheriff’s department.*

Reports: Mass exodus of retiring police officers may lead to a national public safety crisis
Law Enforcement Today ^ | 04/27/2021 | Anita Job

There are growing concerns that the mass retirements of police officers throughout the country may lead to a national public safety crisis.

Between losing experienced law enforcement personnel and not having enough officers, some are suggesting the mass exodus will compromise people’s safety, especially in major U.S. cities.

(Excerpt) Read more at lawenforcementtoday.com …

Detroit Police Chief James Craig has some concerns about the Department of Justice’s new and widespread investigations into police departments across the nation, as well as the new George Floyd Justice in Policing Act that would effectively destroy local police and give the federal government the power to police us all.

What will the Super Rich Elites, do when their blue city mayors replace their city cops with Sharia Muslims and other social workers with BLMers/Antifas?

I’ve spent a lot of time in and around Minneapolis. Used to do a lot of work up in AK and would usually route through MSP. I also had clients there so I’d stay over a night or two. I used to go see MLB baseball games before they went all woke. Strangest town in America to me. I’m not talking about the bad parts of town. That area was settled by Scandinavian folks for the most part. Just a weird culture to me. But most of the folks outside of the city in MN are fine.

Yeah, "violence prevention programs" have never been tried before in any liberal city, so no one has any reason to think this one won't convert Oakland into a utopia that doesn't need the police.

The Left doesn’t understand that at some point, the police are protecting the criminals from the armed law-abiding citizenry.

I settled on a southern state with a conservative governor, legislature in an extremely conservative county with a runway nearly two miles long. I can get anywhere I need to from here but I’m still about 40 miles outside of the relatively medium sized city. I have access to fairly clean water as it is right at the foothills of the Appalachians and about a 10 day march to one of the least populated counties in the southeast.

I would advise anyone living within 50 miles of a major city to get moving NOW!
