SYDNEY, June 28 (Reuters) - Australia's COVID-19 response committee is due to hold an emergency meeting on Monday as outbreaks of the highly contagious Delta variant across the country prompted a lockdown in Sydney and renewed restrictions elsewhere.
More than 20 million Australians, or around 80% of the population, are now under some form of lockdown or COVID-related restrictions as officials grapple with COVID-19 flare-ups in almost every state or territory.
"I think we are entering a new phase of this pandemic, with the more contagious Delta strain," federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg told the Australian Broadcasting Corp on Monday, adding Australia was facing a "critical time" in its fight against COVID-19...
Eighteen new local cases were reported in NSW on Monday, compared with 30 a day earlier, taking the total infections in the latest outbreak to 130 since the first case was detected nearly two weeks ago in a driver for overseas airline crew.
"We have to be prepared for the numbers to bounce around and we have to be prepared for the numbers to go up considerably," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters in Sydney…
"With this strain, we are seeing almost 100% transmission within households."
A health alert was issued over the weekend for hundreds of passengers after an infected Virgin Australia cabin crew member worked on five flights covering Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast…

meanwhile, there has been ONE ‘COVID’ DEATH in Australia THIS YEAR and it wasn’t from Delta.
there is only one ‘covid’ patient - not Delta - in ICU and something under 30, from memory, hospitalized.
latest trick is to add up the daily “cases” in New South Wales and present them as a total - 102 yesterday when there were 30 new “cases”, and 130 today when there’s been 18 more.
virtually all media is on board with this scam and the aim is to force everyone to get vaccinated, even if they don’t have enough vaccine doses for everyone.
This is the biggest beat-up in history. One, repeat, one person has died of Covid in Australia this year. Of course, many more have died of the “vaccine” but that doesn’t seem to rate a mention.
At the moment in Sydney, there is one person in ICU and about half a dozen in hospital and for this this have locked the whole city down. The Delta strain may be more infectious but it is close to harmless. Most people don’t even know they have it or they may just get the sniffles. Its the media ginning people up to get one of those dodgy tests and screaming about the odd positive result (I think about 20 today out of I don’t know how many thousand tests) when most of those people are perfectly well.
Our premier previously said that the numbers looked at should be sickness and death, not just test results but, of course, that’s down the memory hole and here we are, the whole state (and much of the rest of Australia) in suspended animation to please our masters without any genuine reason.
LOL, and yet somehow that is related to Covid! At bottom, I’m sure Trump is to blame. Glad these folks were found, hope they got some clothes!
