Because people have old high-school friends, cousins, adult kids, and grandkids they want to keep track of. Nobody has a dog-eared notebook with names and phone numbers on them anymore.

Why does anyone have a FB account?

Apparently people have a FB account to traffic in sex. Everything else FB offers can be done pretty easily through other means.
