A National Institutes of Health study has found that using marijuana might increase the risk of suicidal ideation and attempts to self harm, even among those with no history of depression.
The study, titled "Associations of Suicidality Trends With Cannabis Use as a Function of Sex and Depression Status," was published in the journal of the American Medical Association on Tuesday. It involved face-to-face household interviews as part of the 2008-2019 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health conducted by researchers with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The National Institute on Drug Abuse sponsored the research as part of the NIH.
What the researchers found was that men who used marijuana daily and suffered from depression had an increase in suicidal ideation from 14.9% (2008-2009) to 21.9% (2018-2019), and 10.3% (2008-2009) to 17% (2018-2019), among non-daily users.
According to the findings, women who used marijuana also appeared to have a greater associated risk of suicidal ideation than men who used marijuana.

allendale seems to think that all pot users are at least diminished, but mostly stupid.
Which is ridiculous on it’s face and displays abject ignorance.
Not a doper at all, but…. Which came first, the MJ or the suicidal thoughts?
Gee thanks man, but you’re still, like, a pompous ass, man, and like, you probably score relatively high on the sociopathy test too man.
Marijuana gives the illusion of slowing down time.
But it doesn’t really slow down and what you thought was 1965 is 2020..oh wait it’s 2021.
Whatever dude, I’ll sit here and toke on a nice fatty and contemplate what you’re sayin man.
And then, after the Tigers-Astros game, maybe I’ll do a little more research on Inertial Mass Reduction Devices and how they apply to the Tic-Tac navy UFO’s; how knowledge about them might lead humans to greater than light-speed travel, at least for humanity’s future probes and robots; from my reading thus far though, it seems like a long shot that human beings can actually survive travelling faster than light-speed. Just sayin.
Then about 9:00pm I am going to take my sleeping tokes turn on my audio book “Shattered Sword” and I will learn, overnight while I sleep, the intimate details about the Battle of Midway and why the history written about it thus far, has gotten so many important details wrong. So, that’s what I am going to do today; what about you?
“But, I do recall (from long ago) pot making many of us paranoid.”
That’s why I quit, over 35 years ago. Perhaps I changed, or perhaps the pot did, but it wasn’t at all enjoyable any more. I don’t know whether I’d use it medicinally now, but I have no reason to.
I read this article and suddenly got the munchies.
Hmmmmm, great question. Thanks man, thats another reason to wrap one up and toke away, I love getting my mind right Luke, and just sitting back and contemplating deeply an important issue like that. Your question has inspired me to watch Up In Smoke, again. Thanks Man. LOL
My experiences around pot smokers is that it affects everybody somewhat differently; some people it puts to sleep; some people who are wound a little tight it just mellows them out; for some people it expands their conscienceousness and they get very creative; for some people their reaction, and pots affect on them, almost seem to be dependent upon their mood at the time as it will affect them differently almost everytime they smoke it. One will only find out how it affects them if they try it a couple of times. I can say this, again from my own experiences, I have never witnessed a person smoke pot and go from mellow to aggressive, never have I seen that happen. Many, many times I’ve seen the opposite whereby one is pissed off and aggressive and after taking a few tokes settles down and is all mellowed out just wanting to have a good time now.
I will also say this from own personal experience; my first time it gave me a rather bad headache and I said I ain’t never doing this again, but my girlfriend at the time, I was 16 she was 15, talked me into trying it once more and I had a completely different experience with it. I also believe, if one chooses never to try it, hey that’s fine too, its totally up to the individual and I respect each ones personal decision on these kinds of matters.
Marijuana use is linked to more money for drug dealers.

One of the aspects of marijuana liberalization that is rarely mentioned is the impact on mental health. Living in a state where it has been legalized and having friends in law enforcement, I can tell you with absolute certainty that it has been gasoline on the fire of mental illness, homelessness, and in our jail population.
Mild schizophrenia can become severe schizophrenia with marijuana use. People who might otherwise function pretty well are incapable of maintaining their mental health while smoking this potent crap. Incarceration, mental health, and other social costs are far in excess of any “taxes” they used to sell this crap sandwich.
Too few want to talk about it or they resort to the libertarian “freedom” argument. Remember, it’s only individual freedom if the rest of society does not have to pay for it.
Thanks to Trump.
“I can tell you with absolute certainty that it has been gasoline on the fire of mental illness, homelessness, and in our jail population.”
Absolutely true. Indisputably.
The mentally ill should not use pot.
Or drink alcohol.
“Remember, it’s only individual freedom if the rest of society does not have to pay for it.”
That’s why we should prohibit alcohol and fast food.
It knocks my anxiety way down and calms me nicely.
I’ve been 420 every for over a decade.
Helped me through some rough times a crazy spouse and divorce.
Benadryl does that for me and it’s a damned sight cheaper.

Or we could ban free healthcare, free food, free housing, and free income. That is real libertarianism. This collective safety net where you and I pay for someone elses bad choices is unconstitutional.
Stoners or drug dealers.
Either way, they suck at life.
