I agree. No zoning laws are needed.

Not nearly enough money to do that everywhere. They might do it in targeted Republican neighborhoods however.

It needs to go to scrotus.

These communities ought to be able to withhold giving the money to fedgov to redistribute to those who don’t mind the federal blackmail strings to get it back.

Its why we have 50 states. Its not a one size fits all country. Not every place is identical and does everytning the same. That’s the point.

We are not soviet russia, all mandated to live in the same style stalinkas and brezschnevkas.

Good points. To the liberals, we should not be 50 states with different laws or policies. To the liberals, everything should be administered from Washington, DC, preferably by Democrats/socialists/anarchists.

apartments are necessary for ppl to live in. However suburbs outlaw them. folks who can’t afford a house have to live somewhere. And these suburbs are happy to have apartment dwellers work in their stores and businesses. They just aren’t happy to have them reside in their little town. They flat out refuse to zone anything that isn’t a money maker. A large 4 bedroom house will generate money far in excess of what that house will use in city services. But a 12 unit apartment with 3 bedrooms apiece makes these towns turn up their nose. No way Jose! Gosh those ppl will have kids that need to go to school. And they won’t be able to charge nearly as much property tax as a single family detached house. The horror!

Now ppl need to live somewhere. And if the market says it makes sense to build an apartment here and there why not? The key imo is to focus on upward mobility. Getting ppl out of these apartments into a house.

My 2 cents

Leftist seem to love concentrating populations into small easy to control areas. It’s like old fashioned ghettoization.

I suspect most cities will be lining up for the money. They won't consider the long-term impact and simply tell everyone it's a great idea.

The consequences won't appear until it's too late. Stable, safe communities are going to be devastated.

All the services are found in cities will have to be extended to suburbs. They're going to have to build entire new service networks. Demands for services is going to be a logistical nightmare.

In California and elsewhere the democrats are reducing the number of road lanes. Where there are 4 then they were reduced to 2 lanes.

Besides making travel time longer because of traffic backups it also proved deadly in a brush fire up north that wiped out a town. People died in their cars trying to escape the fire because the town politicians accepted money several years before from the state for road repair with a string attached as long as the lanes were reduced. Traffic backed up and they burned to death.

The logic is that minorities are “trapped in crowded neighborhoods” that are not pleasant to live in.

So the idiots think the solution is to create MORE crowded neighborhoods????

Do people need to fail an IQ test to become a politician these days?

that coupled with the proposed regulatory change to navigable water ways which would include everything down to rain puddles and rain run off, total government control of land would be complete.

“Disadvantaged urban families, migrants, and refugees have to live somewhere.”

Here in NJ this is about funding for the said populations; the cities are broke tribal kleptocracies, so the idle people are dispersed to the surrounding areas of “makers” to force them to pay for their schools, emergency services, and everything else the cities stopped providing while raking in gazillions in federal, state, and county aid.

While some people don’t want to live in a suburb, it is safest to live in one that is “built out” (no more available space for a welfare colony to be built).

Every suburb I’ve visited has apartments; the problem is having the gubmint determine what rent may be charged. NJ towns in the past had the option of paying their way out of “low income housing” requirements (I believe those payments would go to areas that would provide it). Now libs want to change that, which would mean some of the wealthiest zip codes could end up hosting a welfare camp; it simply doesn’t work (within years the whole place will be a large welfare reservation).

Because our property taxes are so high, and so few working Americans have children, many people with the means no longer see home ownership as a goal but a trap; they realize they’d simply be renting their homes from the local gubmint worker caste. The reason most towns don’t want apartments that would accommodate families with children is because unionized teachers and cops are financial albatrosses that in the end will sink many towns; increasing amounts of current revenues are paying for the gold-plated pensions and retirement benefits of people who haven’t worked in DECADES. Much easier to build housing for low-income retirees, or just over-55s; less teachers AND cops.

The idea of moving people from apartments to houses crashed and burned in Newark NJ a few years back. The city announced it was selling vacant lots for as little as $1,500.00 (many of which had been abandoned after the mid-1960s Simba riots), and the usual “free sh!t” crowd (black and brown) lined up around the block to grab them. The program was re-visited the first couple of anniversaries, and almost nothing had been done with the lots; many had been returned already. When the “takers” realized this program would transform them into taxpayers (they had to build on the lots and live there for five years), they balked and retreated. This is why the Founding Fathers never envisioned a country where people who paid no taxes would be voting; there is no reason for this bipedal livestock to determine how contributions from “makers” should be spent. It isn’t about white privilege or patriarchy either; from the first day of independence both blacks and women in NJ could vote if they owned property (the only source of taxes back then). Poll taxes use a similar logic; you’ll contribute something before determining how other peoples’ contributions are spent...
