Britney Spears asks judge to free her from conservatorship

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Britney Spears asked a judge Wednesday to end the court conservatorship that has controlled her life and money since 2008. The dramatic request at a Los Angeles hearing came with her first words in open court in the conservatorship during its 13-year existence. Spears called the conservatorship “abusive,” and condemned her father and the others who have controlled it. “I want to end this conservatorship without being evaluated,” Spears said by phone in a long, emotional and sometimes profane speech, in which she condemned the legal arrangement and her father, who has controlled it for most of its existence. Advertisement: “This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good,” she said. “I deserve to have a life.” Spears said she wants to marry her boyfriend Sam Asghari and have a baby, but the conservatorship won’t allow her to. She told the court she’s being forced to take birth control against her will. “All I want is to own my money and for this to end and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his (expletive) car,” Spears said. In the written speech that lasted more than 20 minutes, Spears revealed many details that have been carefully guarded for years by the court. Advertisement: When an attorney representing her co-conservator said the hearing and transcript should be kept sealed if private medical information was to be revealed, Spears shouted her down to say her words should be public. “They’ve done a good job at exploiting my life,” Spears said, “so I feel like it should be an open court hearing and they should listen and hear what I have to say.”

I have been blissfully ignorant Britney’s blight/mental issues.

I know she's a star and that,presumably,she makes and/or has made tons of money.So the first thing you do is perform a *very* detailed audit...a forensic audit...or her accounts while under the control of “conservators”. Regardless of who they are (parents have been accused of stealing from kids).

I’ll admit I don’t know much about this but the whole situation seems really bazaar to me. She’s out there performing but she’s too mentally frail to see to her own affairs? As an outsider, it looks like she’s a court sanctioned cash cow for her Father. Lots of celebrities lose their fortunes due to stupid decisions. Why shouldn’t she be allowed to do the same?

Wow. You must not have read the article, or any others. I read the Daily Mail one this morning and for one, Britney has not retired. Did you miss the long Vegas show she just came out of which made her HANDLERS/Parents rich? Her dad finds her well enough to perform (even when SHE doesn’t want to) and pays HIMSELF $16K monthly while allowing her an “allowance” of $8K monthly?

She is forced to where an IUD, not allowed to travel...and was forced, by her father, to spend those months in the hospital because she refused to practice and argued with him during a rehearsal.

Just maybe you should have some compassion. I feel for this woman who is basically a prisoner of those who should be protecting her.

How shallow must someone's life be to be a fanatic of a bleached blond, no-talent, washed up has been?

When I first heard "I did it again" I honestly thought it was a parody song. It sounded like Jerry Lewis huffing helium.

And she is just bizarre looking. In a social situation I would not give her a second look other than maybe a "wow, what a strange looking chick."
