Pennsylvania State Police is investigating a hate crime that occurred over the weekend in Adams County.
Phoenix Counseling Services, LLC, 2311 Fairfield Road, in Highland Township, had “derogatory slurs” spray-painted on its building, according to its Facebook page. The suspect or suspects are facing a charge of criminal mischief.
No arrests have been made.
“Someone wrote a slur against our office and the LGBTQIAP+ community over the weekend,” the Facebook post said. “This hate crime is unacceptable and we will not be silent about it.”
The post continued: “Phoenix Counseling is and will always be an affirming and inclusive counseling practice. Hate crimes like this are unacceptable and we will continue to take steps to ensure the safety of marginalized populations. Sadly, this is a small sample of the hate the LGBTQIAP+ community endures and that hate is often the reason for seeking help in the first place.”
The incident is under investigation, Trooper Megan Ammerman said. The incident was reported to state police on Monday.
“Unknown subject or subjects wrote offensive words on the side of the building with spray paint,” Ammerman said. “The derogatory words were directed toward the business, which serves the LBGTQ community.”
The Pennsylvania State Police Heritage Affairs Office was notified, she said.
“It is considered a hate crime,” Ammerman said.

CRT is a hate crime. I am finding it hard to get worked up about graffiti sprayed on a wall.

I would assume sentences/fines for being found guilty for hate crime graffiti are worse than for your everyday graffiti. How about someone created love graffiti? Instead of getting a fine, the government pays you to go on vacation. I am getting my spray cans ready. That has to be what’s next. The government pays people for defacing property. It just has to be a government sanctioned defacing.
I am so glad not to be defined by who I want to sleep with, or my skin color, or by a deviant impulse. I am grateful to have been born in a time and place that permitted me to choose my identity; to be a doctor, a lawyer, a philosopher or a woodworker, or even a number of things all at once if I so choose. And I thank my Creator for imparting to me the wisdom to identify as those things that are really the only things that matter; husband, father and friend. And last, but not least, an American.
“Sexual identity” becomes increasingly less important with maturity and age.
Heck. “XX = Woman” is a hate crime now. But I put my money on this being a hoax.
