The filibuster is the tool of cool rationality, to prevent seriously bad ideas from being adopted, by a stampede of a majority of 50% plus one. The supermajority provides the chance to ask, do we REALLY want this, or is it just a passing fancy?

What does the popular vote have to do with it, Senator Murphy? Right now it looks to me that the electoral vote was stolen by the actions of 4 counties in the U.S. Fulton County GA, Wayne County GA, Maricopa County AZ and Milwaukee County WI.
