The point is they hate Donald Trump in a way that is deep and irrational. They will do ANYTHING to keep Trump out of office. If that means promoting DeSantis, who is very dangerous to them, so be it.
As far as I can tell, DeSantis is much like Trump in policy with a more polished personna. I think DeSantis has the potential to get a lot of cross overs, including the elusive liberal suburban white women.

It's a waste of DeSantis' talent if he become Vice President. If Trump runs again, he should pick Kristi Noem. It's 2024 after all. Trump is not going to pick another White man to balance the ticket.
If Trump is not running, then DeSantis should run.
Honestly, I think DeSantis should run. Trump had his two chances at the White House and it's time that somebody else had their shot at it. DeSantis is great. We all like him. Nothing against Trump (yes he has a little baggage but who doesn't? and look at his age, 78 by the time he runs again in 2024)

Fact. Most important to them is that they are seen as smart, independent and virtuous.
Ironically, voting Democrat indicates they are none of those things.
Folks need to understand DeSantis is doing great moves for Floridians and by extension putting the Rats on their heels.
But this is not an accident. DeSantis is not President Trump.
President Trump is a man who works under his own American agenda, free from the controls and influence of globalists and other anti-American powers.
President Trump is the only person who can run and be elected outside of their money and influence.
As good as DeSantis is and his imitation of President Trump right down to his hand gestures, he’s not President Trump. He will never be President Trump.
A DeSantis in the WH could very well sign a Shamnesty bill or any number of other actions President Trump would not even allow on his desk.
This political acceptance from the Rat Media is evidence of these facts.
