My adopted state of Virginia has grown increasingly blue over the past few decades. Once a predictably red state, the Old Dominion voted for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden, and Democrats recently took both the Senate and the House of Delegates. But even with the population in the blue Washington, D.C., suburbs of Northern Virginia increasing, Republican Glenn Youngkin has a decent chance of winning the governor’s race this upcoming November.
Youngkin, a businessman, is faring surprisingly well against former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-Va.), who is running for re-election after the constitutionally mandated four-year hiatus between terms. In the Democratic primary, McAuliffe ran as the safer, more established choice. His high approval ratings in 2018 essentially gave him a lock on the Democratic nomination from the beginning.
Yet Youngkin has already shown himself up for the challenge. A recent poll from JMC Analytics and Polling found Youngkin a mere four percentage points behind McAuliffe, 42 percent to 46 percent, with 12 percent of likely voters undecided. That’s a lot narrower than Biden’s 10-percentage-point victory over former President Donald Trump last November. In fact, McAuliffe’s lead of 4 percent fell within the margin of error, 4.2 percent.
Another poll, from WPA Intelligence, found McAuliffe ahead of Youngkin by a mere 2 points, 48 percent to 46 percent. Again, the Democrat’s lead fell well within the margin of error, 4 percent.
These polls suggest that Virginians who voted for Biden may be considering pulling the lever for a Republican endorsed by the Bad Orange Man himself, Donald Trump.
“Glenn is pro-Business, pro-Second Amendment, pro-Veterans, pro-America, he knows how to make Virginia’s economy rip-roaring, and he has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

If the polls show 4% behind for the GOP candidate, he’s just about even. Voters say one thing, go in to vote, and do something else.
Discount optimism of the sort found in this headline until those engaged in voter irregularities meet justice. And even then, the damaged system will remain for some time.
Not anymore. Too many Karens/wine moms, soy boys and third world immigrants.
Just wondering can illegals get a drivers license and then sign up to vote like in New York. If so, you know who will get elected.
Can that mean anything but we'll never see another fair election in this country?
He better be able to garner enough votes to overcome the fraud that will surely follow.
Here’s the drill in Virginia, and it happens every time. The Republican candidate does better than expected, pulling far ahead in every area except Tidewater and Richmond, but even there it is close. By late evening, all areas of the state have reported their totals, except the Northern counties of Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun, and the Republican has a comfortable lead. The Republican is even doing well in the early totals from the Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun. These are always the last counties to report their totals, long after the rest of the state has finished, and it is known how many votes the Democrats needs to win. The Northern counties now go to work, and the counting goes on through the night, slowly chipping away the Republican lead. Missing thumb drives are found, and unreported ballots are discovered in these three counties, particularly Fairfax, until finally the Democratic candidate achieves the lead.
Until George W Bush was President and the illegal alien inundation reached VA in large numbers, Virginia was low crime, Republican and English speaking.
I hope so!
Exactly, I have watched that scenario repeat itself time and again.
Why tamper with success?
Way too many parasites in NoVA sucking at the bosom of their Dimm mommies in DC. Watching the returns in Virginia in recent elections is like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown...this time, maybe this time they can pull off a state-wide race.
WHIFF.
Other reasons are: Too many Federal Workers. Too many College students and professors. Too many third World immigrants, A/K/A, wetbacks. Too many fools, idiots, parasites, traitors, murderers, A/K/A, Democrats. Too many soy boys, Soccer moms, America haters, Individuals who no longer care about living free. Individuals who think and thought nothing about a coup being successfully executed against a legally elected President and then added insult to the injury be pretending nothing out of the ordinary happened and continuing with their daily lives.
Youngkin’s radio ads that I have heard so far have been horrible. His name is mentioned only once, at the start of the ad, and the content is just vanilla rhetoric that could be attributed to either party.
Not a chance in hell. Youngkin has deep ties to China and the system is still rigged. I’m getting out soon.
Some of the activity that evening is the Dems going through the voter roles and submitting votes for those people who didn’t vote. You know, they’re just doing those folks a favor…
Who really cares. The type of person matters more than the party. This guy is probably a Romney Repuke in which case I’d rather the Rat.
As a guy that was born in VA you nailed it. Those 3 counties in the north will always determine the fate of VA, as sad as it is the say it Virginia is a done deal almost, it sucks but it is what it is.
Yep. Now all the job listings are for bilingual people —with no increase in pay!—
Not that I mind immigrants or immigration (legal, of course), just that I see this as a problem. There are some jobs where no English is needed, but Spanish is!
