Former Indiana GOP schools chief changes party affiliation to Democrat

One of the worst-kept secrets in Indiana politics officially is out of the bag — Jennifer McCormick is a Democrat.

The former state superintendent of public instruction confirmed Monday she no longer identifies with the Indiana Republican Party that nominated and elected her in 2016 to lead the Indiana Department of Education.

McCormick said she now realizes the values she held during her four years as state schools chief, including taking care of the whole child while pursuing academic excellence, only can be fulfilled by the Indiana Democratic Party.

"I know there are Republican voters across Indiana who believe in the ideas to fully fund our public schools and provide our educators the quality of life they deserve, but I have some advice for them: it'll be the Indiana Democrats — not Republican elected officials — who'll get it done."

She noted Indiana schools would not be receiving $2 billion in federal funds to speed their recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic without Democratic President Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan. Likewise, most of the additional money available for teacher pay hikes and other local education needs in the new state budget also would not be there absent the federal aid.

The American Rescue Plan was opposed by every Republican representing Indiana in Congress, including U.S. Sens. Todd Young and Mike Braun.

Yep.

didn’t the dems in the 60s/70s make it known that they were going to infiltrate the Rs to make a change from within?

Most Rs could follow in his footsteps and I wouldn’t be surprised.

Seems to me that you could hold a convention of truly conservative “educators” in a phone booth...and have room left over. This dame is now a colleague of Bill Ayers,America's most prominent “educator”.

It's all about the children. Oops, wait. What did she just say?

How about value to the taxpayers? I never see anything written about how American government schools are excelling in educating our young. There is no excellence. So why in the hell do "educators" (I use that term loosely) get raises? All of them, even the really bad ones.

Any Republican that talks about increasing funding to schools is an assistant Democrat. It is good that this one actually exposed herself. By the way, one of my acid tests when evaluating Republican candidates is whether they would increase, decrease or maintain stable funding for education. I award triple bonus points for cutting funding.

If only John Cornyn had that level of integrity.

“ it’ll be the Indiana Democrats — not Republican elected officials — who’ll get it done”

The only thing the Democrats ever “get done” is wreaking havoc on everything they touch.

The communists made a point of infiltrating both parties. They can’t lose that way.

Also gain control of the press, education, academia, the courts. I say they did remarkably well.

At least he’s being honest to himself.
Most RINOs actually think that they are Republican and Conservative.

"...provide our educators the quality of life they deserve"

At least she is honest. The top concern is always how many nice vacations the unionized teachers can enjoy, not whether or not the students are doing well.

The former chief will certainly suffer less persecution. Nowadays, being a Republican is not for the faint hearted, especially in the education field.

TransRepublicans make up more of the elected GOP than people think.
