HARRISBURG, Pa. – On Monday the Senate approved a bill to fund the demolition of blighted and abandoned properties.
Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks), the sponsor of Senate Bill 439 says it has strong, bipartisan support and was passed by a vote of 48-2.
“This bill gives counties dedicated funding for the demolition of blighted, decaying, rat-infested buildings,” said Argall. “Breathing new life into our older towns, large and small, will help bring more jobs here and encourage more of our young people to stay in their hometowns to raise their family and build their career.”

Pre audit clearing Detroit will be next.
Making way to build new rat-invested buildings.
Probably the buildings the ballots are stored in.
“Why should people in my town pay ...”
It appears that the Federal government’s going to pay for this. Am I wrong? Hope so.
Senate Bill 439 amends the Recorder of Deeds Fee Law to eliminate a sunset within the law. Specifically, this bill removes the 10-year sunset in Section 2.2, which allows for the creation of a fee not to exceed $15 to be charged by a recorder of deeds on each deed and mortgage recorded. Revenue generated from the fee is to be used for the demolition of blighted property within the county. The provision was originally set to expire in 2026...Removing the sunset will allow counties to continue to levy the fee for the demolition of blighted property.
I can't get worked up over fifteen bucks.
If SB439 put up a barrier to any PA municipality enacting a Kelo-like taking of private property for public use then I'd be enthused.
15 bucks here, 15 bucks there starts adding up to real money. It is the principle of the matter that gets me worked up. Sen. Argall finds time to do crap like this, but cannot find time to do a forensic audit. I am going to be all over his RINO ass every chance I get.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
I’m guessing most of these buildings are in ‘the black community’ and those community or the cities they’re in - should pay. This isn’t a ‘shared responsibility’ problem..
“ Handle “blight” by getting red tape out of the way.”
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The $15 fee will be payed by everyone who opens a mortgage in the state of Pennsylvania.
The demolished buildings will only be done in Philthadelphia.
So once again the sucker GOP raises taxes to benefit democrats.
BLM and Antifa are burning and tearing down perfectly good buildings. They could be doing good in da hood but naaaaaaw.
“It makes on difference if the funding comes from the Commonwealth or from the federal government.”
Thanks for the answer. Is your “it makes no difference” cynicism?
If the State has an enumerated power to demolish blight and it's funded with a tax on real estate, then this ranks pretty low amongst the plethora of Bad Things conducted by the govt. I'll save my anger for something big.
Start with Pittsburgh.
You are very trusting in government. They will take the millions in “revenue” and then bulldoze only one or two buildings a year.
The rest of the money will go to “administration” salaries (mostly the relatives of politicians).
I didn't not have a bottomless pit of energy to expend over every usurpation.
