The hole in the ozone layer, Earth’s protective chemical shield that absorbs most of the sun’s ultraviolet rays, has slowly healed over the last few decades since the global ban of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). But scientists are now raising the alarm about puncturing a new hole in the ozone layer—this time without any noticeable CGCs in sight.
Instead, the surprising cause is deterioration of the aluminum in megaconstellation satellites like SpaceX’s Starlink network.
For our purposes, a satellite is a human-made object put into low-Earth orbit (LEO) for a planned lifespan. There are about 5,000 active and defunct satellite sin LEO, with over 40,000 Starlink sats planned in the future, plus satellite projects from national space agencies and private companies around the world, researchers from the University of British Columbia say in their new Scientific Reports study.

Ozone is created when radiation passes through the atmosphere and strikes water.
So, if there were a "hole", it would self heal.
Lost in the Ozone
quote “since the global ban of chlorofluorocarbons”
that determined the ozone hole was normal, and stopped talking about it.
“Lost in the Ozone”
That is what we used to say about a certain supervisor who was strung out on pain killers.
...and if one of the satellites falls on Guam, then it could sink it. (Rep. Hank Johnson, D-GA)
it’s actually extremely costly to get things into orbit. They would be much better of salvaging these things and reusing the parts or materials for other new objects in space.
Yeah, thats a thing!!!
The orbit of each has been specifically deconflicted with the others, so the energy required to somehow retrieve multiple satellites in a single mission is prohibitive.
The contamination of the ozone layer by aluminum is caused by Geoengineering run by NASA, NOAA and the Air Force ... hey, look over there not here.
“Evaporating aluminum satellites is bad m’kay?” with little objective analysis of impact vs benefits. Seems a headline that exist only because of the obligatory “Musk! SpaceX bad!”
Ok, Mr Author, shut off your use of satellites and then we’ll talk. Or not…
Sounds like propaganda to turn public opinion against Elon Musk.
I see a business opportunity here... There is a lot of money in the garbage business.
Everyone had better mask-up again while we figure out what to do!

The Ozone hole for one, IS STILL THERE!!! SAME SIZE!!!
BECAUSE THERE IS NO SUNLIGHT THERE!!!
You might be surprised at how little aluminum content there is in U.S. satellites over the last 20 years.
