Shocking surveillance footage captured the moment two young children were trampled by a man as he tried to escape from a shooter who fired nearly a dozen bullets in the middle of a Bronx street and pointed his gun at the terrified kids.
The NYPD released the video on Friday afternoon and asked for the public's help in identifying the gunman in the latest of nearly 150 shootings across the city this month.
The video opens with a boy and girl - believed to be around the ages of five and 10 - walking on a sidewalk before people scatter when a gunman chases a man in a red sweater.
The man in the sweater, who police believe was the intended target, barrels into the kids and knocks them down before the gunman runs up and fires multiple times in their direction.
The alleged target scrambles to his feet but trips in the three-person scrum before crawling over the kids to escape the hail of bullets.
The two children are momentarily pinned under the man in the sweater while he is shot at as the older girl is seen grabbing the boy and holding him tight in an attempt to shield him.
The man in the sweater was shot multiple times but is still alive, according to the NYPD, and amazingly, the children weren't shot or seriously injured.
This is the latest brazen act of violence in New York City - where shootings have skyrocketed since the pandemic gripped the country.

If this is now in the Daily Mail, that means the europeans are watching all the craziness in New York too. Count a few more tourist dollars that won’t be visiting New York for while. By the way, I know most British don’t consider themselves as “european” per se, but I do.
They'll go to Florida instead.
I know a retired NYPD plain clothes officer.
He said to me as soon as he heard they would be disbanded, he said to himself, watch the shootings start.
He was right. He said they pulled more guns off the street than any other unit of the NYPD and found out about stuff before it went down all the time. They had a finger on the pulse of an area and knew what was going on. People would talk to them where they wouldn’t talk to a uniformed officer and they found out a lot of information.
They also took care of crowd control, infiltrated the crowds and grabbed the rabble rousing leaders and hauled them away before the crap started. In the back of the car and gone.
They also were dispatched to precincts on a rotating basis for anti-crime patrols and nipped a lot of problems in the bud.
Chances are there was one on the subway train or on the block where you were walking and you never knew it. Nowadays if you don’t see a uniform, there are no police.
Unbelievable stupidity.
It is really really shocking. How could he miss. Doesn't anyone edit anymore. It isn't a shock that gunning down folks on streets is just dandy in liberal woke cities - of course not - we expect it. And of course we are not shocked that RINOs are ok with people being gunned down in the streets. What is shocking to them is a President who puts America first when they are busy selling us out.
That's what wins elections in NYC.
It is worse. Almost every candidate for mayor is campaigning on a re-fund the police platform and other anti-crime ideas, because it is so obvious that this city could be lost, as the GOP candidate for DA has predicted if something is not done.
Of course the one who hates the cops the most is surging ahead now, although anyone in any way associated with our bedlam-abetting enabler in chief should really not even be considered.
So we have more than one problem: we have the criminals themselves, the state legislature which keeps making it easier for the criminals, and politicians who think they can achieve electoral success by bashing the cops and calling for more defunding of the police.
I saw a young woman on the subway the other evening with a fencing sword. Even in the worst of the pre-Giuliani days, we didn’t have to carry swords.
It’s back to the 1970s. Crime & inflation & NYC a cesspit.
It’s a shame. Those poor kids, they never asked for any of that. That girl’s instincts were to protect the boy (likely her brother) and that breaks my heart too, she was waiting for the impact of bullets that thankfully didn’t come, but she thought she had to sacrifice for him, and kids shouldn’t be growing up like that.
I don’t have the answers, I just know what I would do to fix it, but it would be extremely politically incorrect.
No matter what the rest of this is about, my heart goes out to those children. They don’t deserve this.
How will they feel safe again if at any moment a violent, impulsive thug could spring out at them. Children should not have to grow up with that.
Dems should be deeply ashamed of the urban world they have created and what it’s doing to the children. They aren’t.
If the Democratic Party was banned as a criminal organization, the cities would come back to civilization in no time...
At this point both parties need to go, then someone instated that knows how to follow a document already all written up, the hard part is done, simply follow it.
Well I know what they used to do 150+ years ago when gangs got out of control, definitely no politically correct but very effective.
