San Jose [CA] approves law requiring videotaping of all gun purchases

Most retail stores in San Jose already have some sort of surveillance system. The new law requires them to take an extra step to capture audio and to retain the videos for at least 30 days, giving law enforcement the opportunity to collect evidence they might need...

The mayor’s plan also calls for a separate ordinance that would require gun owners to carry liability insurance and pay a fee to cover taxpayer costs associated with firearm violence. The council is expected to consider that proposal this fall.

San Jose joined Chicago and several smaller California cities — including Campbell, El Cerrito and San Carlos — in requiring the videotaping of gun sales, according to the Giffords Law Center. Walmart, the nation’s largest gun seller, started voluntarily videotaping gun sales in 2008.

Passing laws that sunset will give us time to prove how idiotic some are. Some will even be extended.

I’m sure the criminal street gangs who are responsible for the majority of gun violence will be paying most of these fees.

Right?

This won’t be sufficient.

Need voice recordings of them singing “My Little Pony” theme song as well impersonating Dirty Harry or the Terminator.

Then still pictures of each buying in gang regalia.

Finally genetic and poo samples gathered via rectum probes.

These laws will not withstand judicial scrutiny.

Unbelievable! Make law abiding gun owners pay a tax for law breaking gun users. Everything is upside down

Intimidation. Makes about as much sense as requiring gun thieves to video tape their thefts.

Even in CA this will have the life expectancy of a gnat.

You can still buy long guns and handguns in California, but the restrictions on them are so onerous, that many folks are bringing them in from Arizona. AR-15's are now required to have a mechanism that prevents quick magazine replacement. Of course, no magazines of over 10 rounds are allowed to be sold or owned in CA.

How about mandating videotapes of all votes, or of all abortions? Two other important Constitutional rights, so I hear.

Videotape?

I’ll have to look for my old Panasonic.

Might be of some value.

That and VHS tapes.
