NEW YORK (AP) — The Associated Press said Tuesday it will no longer run the names of people charged with minor crimes, out of concern that such stories can have a long, damaging afterlife on the internet that can make it hard for individuals to move on with their lives.

Isn’t the shame of being named a suspect in a crime supposed to be a deterrent? It kind of reminds me of renaming food stamps “SNAP.” People are supposed to feel shame so they won’t commit the crime again. Or in the case of food stamps, they are supposed to feel shame so they won’t get too comfortable with accepting them.
Why bother reporting the crime at all? Why have a press if it doesn’t report?

What do these people consider a “minor crime” these days? My guess is it includes many felonies.
Why just “minor” charges? People can be charged for major crimes and still be innocent.

They are forcing people to abandon their peaceable ways and become vigilantes due to the vacuum. We pay the government and law enforcement to , well, enforce the laws.
Otherwise varmints will swing in the breeze under a tall tree limb like in the 1870s West. Their choice. But I want my tax money back and those bums out of my country (Chicago Mayor, Portland and Seattle Mayors, CA Governor, all the rest who don’t enforce the law. No money for them. Not to paint BLM on streets.
