Mussolini kept saying complimentary things about FDR’s policies. Then someone tried to explain that he was hurting FDR by giving his policies compliments, which, of course, implied to Mussolini that he wasn’t the near God he thought he was. He was quite miffed, but did curtail his praise compliments after that.
I think whoever is speaking for Hamas is tone deaf enough to think he is helping by giving compliments. Reminds me of Nancy Pelosi, AOC and other Democrats who are astonishingly tone deaf.
