A California nun will plead guilty to swindling over $800,000 from the Catholic elementary school she ran to help pay for her gambling trips, federal prosecutors said.
Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, 79, was charged Tuesday with wire fraud and money laundering for ripping off St. James Catholic School for a period of 10 years ending in September 2018, according to a press release from the US Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California.
Kreuper, who was the principal of the school for 28 years, agreed to plead guilty as part of a deal with prosecutors, the release said.

I heard about this case, and apparently she was in charge of all the bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
I know a basic rule of accounting, is that there should be separations of functions, so that missing money would be revealed, because different people having different responsibilities for different aspects of finances, would make it much more difficult to conceal theft.
I’m sure she was able to conceal this by making sure everything was in balance in the various financial reports, even though money was being stolen.
Wow, a nun with a gambling problem. That’s a bad habit.
Maybe she was implicitly trusted, because of being a nun? I’m sure it was inconceivable to the leaders of the church and school that a nun would carry out a scheme to steal money.
I wonder what her son, Joshua, thinks of her arrest.
How is money laundering a crime in this case?
I actually find this story to be kind of hilarious
You have to picture a nun In full habit it in Vegas , sitting at the high-stakes table rolling the dice
I mean come on now that’s funny right?
You can see the vicar coming in there and saying sister! What are you doing here?
I’ll bet she’s going to hell.
I don’t understand how money laundering is involved. It sounds to me that this is a case of theft from the school.
Rolling Seven's until YOU came up!...................
My sister in law was Parish Coordinator for one of our catholic churches for many years. I got to know quite a few nuns because of it. Most of them don’t wear habits anymore.
Think of all the cheerful little kids participating in fundraisers for the school, or for schools in Africa that this evil woman confiscated. Rest in hell.
Catholic school principals never seem to retire. I’m betting she is just one of many.
She forgot the adage: ‘Thou shall not steal.’
Bad habit... Groan... That’s funny... 👍
LOL!
A friend of mine’s money was stolen in this scam. She says the nun’s embezzlement is probably closer to $2-3M, but they could only prove the 800k. She now wonders how much, if anything, the Order of the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondolet will pay, and what will happen to Sr. Lana, who was this nun’s “partner in crime” , working at the school and going on all the gambling trips with her.
