The Energy Department announced on Monday that it was starting an “Earthshots” initiative to reduce the costs of clean energy within a decade — starting with its first goal of reducing the cost of clean hydrogen to $1 per kilogram.
The Energy Earthshots Initiative will seek to, within a decade, speed up breakthroughs in affordable and reliable clean energy, according to a department statement.
“The Energy Earthshots are an all-hands-on-deck call for innovation, collaboration and acceleration of our clean energy economy by tackling the toughest remaining barriers to quickly deploy emerging clean energy technologies at scale,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.

“Only 1.35 kWh/kg H2 is required for compression to 700 bar, with an additional 0.12 kWh/kg H2 to reach a refueling pressure of 880 bar.”

As stated earlier on Kg of H2 has the energy of three gallons of petrol. 20/3*1.35 is about 9 kWh those 6.66 kg of H2 have 798.91 MJ of energy to the LHV. 9 kWh is 32.4 MJ or about 4% of the lower heating value when burned. The catch is hydrogen used in a vehicle will be with a second law of thermodynamics fuel cell not a first law combustion engine so in that case the HHV or higher heating value is used since no combustion is done and the raw chemical energy is available 6.66 kg has a HHV of 944.92 MJ so in a fuel cell car the compression energy is 3.6%
At a dollar per kg that’s the equivalent in energy on a lower heating value BTU to BTU basis of 33 cents per gallon petrol as H2 is 120 MJ/kg and petrol is 34 and E10 mandated in the cities is less at 32 MJ/kg what’s more H2 is used in a fuel cell with twice to three times the efficiency vs a internal combustion and being an electrochemical cell the higher heating value is available something an internal combustion engine can never have access too due to the laws of physics. 1$ per kg is a huge goal. $2.5 petrol is equal to $7.5 kg H2 on a equal energy basis.
Granholm just needs the Demented One to issue and E.O. saying it is $1. Then, everything else in the economy can/will adjust.

Well..yeah.
But that's a job requirement if you wanna shill for Deep State.
Deep State doesn't have a deep bench.
It has a collection of dunce chairs.
And Deep State likes it that way.
I loved the comments to the original article. Childlike fantasies on parade.
Not really a factor in the overall scheme then. Thanks for the breakdown
I thought this was how Al Gore invented the internet.
