They were the Greatest Generation. Do we think the woke generation can replace them?

Maybe David Irving was right after all:

"If the British (and American) soldiers who went up the beaches of Normandy could see what would become of their people and country, they would not have advanced another 40 yards up the beach."

I sincerely believe the whole of America is NOT like the “woke” population...They are receiving all the attention because of the media’s bias...

I am 64, at garage sales in the 1960s there were Army patches everywhere, we all had some; 1964 was only 20 years later, those guys were all 38-40 then. What great men we grew up with.

“The ‘augurs’ are not good.”

An augur was a priest and official in the classical Roman world. His main role was the practice of augury: Interpreting the will of the gods by studying the flight of birds – whether they were flying in groups or alone, what noises they made as they flew, direction of flight, and what kind of birds they were. This was known as “taking the auspices”.

The augural ceremony and function of the augur was central to any major undertaking in Roman society – public or private – including matters of war, commerce, and religion. Augurs sought the divine will regarding any proposed course of action which might affect Rome's pax, fortuna, and salus (peace, good fortune, and well-being)

Why would anyone use that word? To confuse?

under age 50 probably aren’t even aware of what happened that day

No thanks to today's TV. I have Spectrum's Silver plan which must include 30-40 movie channels. I also pay for an additional 20 movie channels.
I can't find a single movie with any military theme, let alone just D-Day, throughout the day and night.
Even better - the History Channel is playing The Food That Built America series all day.
What an effin' disgrace.

Today is also the anniversary of the Battle of Belleau Wood, arguably the turning point of WWI in which the US Marines halted and turned back the Germans’ spring 1918 offensive.

I have/had neighbors who fought in WW2. Some still around, others have passed away. Some were comfortable talking about their experiences, others not. They’re pleased that someone born after they reached retirement age, knows and cares about their service.
Most people my age don’t know beans about history. They think the moon is a planet, and they can’t tell time on an old clock. They got diplomas, somehow.

No, the current crop coming up is a pathetic excuse for a human breathing air. Absolutely zero faith in them.

The woke generation will wake up. Consider. Joe’s ventriloquist is not a moron. He knows that White Supremacy is barely a thing in America in this day and age. But the Wok-eys intend to provoke it. Burn, Loot, Murder long enough, and there will be a backlash, and they want that backlash to be White Supremacy revived.

It’s an idiotic wager, but one that they’re making. What if whites, blacks, Asians, etc., put their heads together and refuse to play along. Instead of the Klan, they get a citizen’s vigilance committee that includes everybody, black, white, yellow, red, brown, Martians and Venusian sentient vapor clouds. And they take no prisoners, except to torture information out of them and then act on it.

No rule of law, no rules, except use your head and don’t dance to their tune. Everyone’s threatened, everyone pulls together.

Americans today and America could not prosecute world war 2 if it was today. I mean this snowflake nation took a header over an a virus that wiped out a staggering 1/20th of 1 percent of the world population. And JAG lawyers would be second guessing every single bomb we dropped on the Germans - was it or was it not a war crime? Shall we prosecute Patton?

Many (but certainly not all) of today's 20 year olds would agree with China...North Korea...Iran rather than storm any beach.

Some few years ago while working in a nursing home in NJ I met “Ernie’’. Ernie was a WW2 vet and always wore a cap bearing the emblem of the 82nd Airborne.

Ernie told me that in those early morning hours of June 6, 1944 his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire and began to go down almost immediately. Only Ernie and three other men made it out of the plane.

Ernie told me he could see that one guy’s chute didn’t open.

“Poor bastard’’ is about all Ernie told me of that night.
