Comedienne Ellie Kemper is in trouble! What for? Well, it’s a bit hard to understand. Let Cockburn go and take a couple of hours to figure it out.
OK, Cockburn is back — and more confused than ever. Apparently, Kemper, 41, is in trouble because she won a local St Louis beauty pageant 22 years ago, when she was 19. Why is that bad? The pageant was the Veiled Prophet Ball, put on by the Veiled Prophet Organization of St Louis. OK — and why is that bad? Well, the Veiled Prophet Organization was founded by white people, and didn’t admit black members until the 1970s. Also, sometimes its members dress in goofy outfits befitting organizations founded in the 1800s.
And that’s it! Kemper won a beauty pageant put on by a group that racially integrated before she was even born. If that’s a calamity, then the same criticism applies to the Miss America pageant, which was segregated until the 1950s. But the wolves smell blood. A self-identified ‘woo-woo sister’ described Kemper as a ‘KKK princess’.

True. And continue to practice it. They refused to grant membership in their racist organization to Steve Cohen, crazed Dim congress critter from Memphis, because he is a honkey.
And their reason for existence (other than as a racial shake-down operation) is to decry segregation.

The Veiled Prophet organization, regardless of its distant past, in more recent years when it moved the events to the week of the 4th of July, did more to unite blacks and whites, urban and suburban residents, rich and poor, as fellow citizens...than any other civic groups have. It was the one week everyone could forget their troubles and have a good time celebrating and chatting with each other, watch each other’s kids having clean fun together, celebrate what is right about the country, give a tip of the hat to the military, celebrate local heroes, cheer while swearing in new citizens, cheer every local high school band, and boost small businesses. We were able to meet and get to know people we’d otherwise never encounter during our commute to work and back, and feel like the brothers we are. Families of all hues and faiths sitting on their blankets under the arch watching air shows or gasping at fireworks or swapping jokes and stories like cousins at a big family reunion... well, I guess the leftwingnuts can’t allow THAT, such time to heal sets back their perpetual effort to separate us into warring self-interested tribes. After every VP week, the organization would gift EVERYONE with a civic improvement, like lights for the Eads Bridge, etc. Horrors!
In fact, the woke criticism of it now is likely intended to shame blacks and young impressionable kids in general, for enjoying the fireworks and parades and being openly and unashamedly patriotic, so that in the future they won’t come out of the prisons of fear the left is holding them in, and mingle with their fellow citizens. Thus the left can take a truly diverse, universally enjoyed celebration, and turn it back into a racial thing, killing it off.
The leftwingnuts would rather have a week of mourning and citywide self flagellation, a giant communist “struggle session,” than a week of toleration and celebration.
The “story” should be about much more than the news that a pretty white lady with wealthy parents being selected as a beauty queen. It should be about how this ever became news in the first place.
I don’t know how many wokescold articles were published on this, but it seems like it started when Scott Beauchamp, an already discredited hack writer who gained notoriety by lying about his military service, stumbled on some old photographs of a celebrity before she was famous that were either posted on Twitter or already available on the internet. There was no actual investigation made into the racial activity of the organization at the time of the event, just that there was a now celebrity involved and an event with a racially tinged past.
Beauchamp — who had already by this point in his career blown any credibility he should have had because he lied about his military service (throwing in these non sequiturs every time a hack “journalist” gets named should be more common in my opinion) — then wove the innuendo together and probably made a few cheap bucks by pitching it to a media that long since abandoned principles of integrity and now chase after cheap clickbait.
The story went “viral” because the media has to find stories that are easy to get people to click on as fast as possible, real journalism that involves getting off of a computer and talking to people or actually witnessing events is too slow to mature and not guaranteed to get clicks, there is effectively no editorial process anymore in media, and the real stories of the day (China, Biden, inflation, Fauci) don’t advance their preferred narratives.
I don’t know Ellie Kemper. I thought Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was good comedy in the few episodes I saw, but even if the show was garbage and she kicks cats in her spare time, this was never a story in the first place and no reasonable person should expect her to grovel to the whims of discredited hacks and worthless wokescolds because of it.
She did a great job on “The Office.” Very cute and funny.
