Britain on Tuesday reported zero daily coronavirus-related deaths for the first time since the pandemic began last year even as scientists continued to urge caution over a complete easing of lockdown restrictions. There were 3,165 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the latest 24-hour period, according to official government data released after what was a longer Bank Holiday weekend in the UK, when the number of deaths and cases can be lower due to reporting lags.
On May 10, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland all reported no deaths, but four were logged in Wales. Tuesday’s figures take the total number of recorded cases so far to 4,490,438 and deaths to 127,782.
Scientists in the UK have urged the government to exercise caution when making a decision about a scheduled June 21 timeline for an end to all lockdown restrictions amid growing fears on Tuesday of a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Professor Ravi Gupta, an Indian-origin scientist from Cambridge University, said that while the infection rates in the country currently remain low, the B1.617.2 variant first identified in India and now renamed as Delta has led to an exponential rise in case numbers in recent days. He advised a few weeks’ delay to the June 21 date to allow the vaccination programme to catch up with the highly transmissible variant of COVID-19.
”There’s been exponential growth in the number of new cases and at least three-quarters of them are the new variant, Gupta told the BBC. We’re not too far from reaching the levels of vaccination that would help us contain the virus. I think that people are not saying we should abandon the June 21 date altogether, but just to delay it by a few weeks while we gather more intelligence

Well, dr fauxi will just have to pay to engineer a more powerful virus

Britain is chock full of moles.
Originally: “We must lock down for 2 weeks so that our hospitals are not overwhelmed by dying people.”
A year and a half later: “It’s true that no one died of COVID today, but we must continue the lockdown for a few more months, or else people will remember that they enjoy freedom.”
The Indy 500 will be an interesting guidepost.
People have now decided life should be without risk. Any and all risk is to be avoided. There will always be some nasty bug/virus going around. It’s what happens when the population is 7 billion strong.
The question is, do you cower in fear, or do you accept that living is a risk and live your life.
I choose to live life.
We've had packed stadiums in certain states for a month with no outbreaks. Daily cases are now so long the CDC stopped their online chart. https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_dailytrendscases
How can that be? vaccines don’t work…. /s
Indy was a hoot. You had to wear a mask to get through the gate and everyone took them off as soon as they got inside. I saw, at most, 5 people wearing masks during the course of the day.
I went Canelo Alvarez fight on May 8. 80,000 fans, no masks, indoors. No covid issues.

You think?
Another 7-8 years of being cautious should whoop this virus /s
Flu and covid are two very different clinical entities despite what you think. I have treated both extensively. ignorance is not a virtue or a valid argument

Depends on which vaccine. Chile and Peru and the Seychelles are highly vaccinated, yet their cases and death toll continue to climb.
The Deaths will start up again when Boris orders everyone to get the vaccine
I don’t know which vaccine. they are using. pfizer and moderna are highly effective. US Isreal and UK cases and deaths are plummeting. Hopefully other countries will start to see the benefits soon. There is also at least a month mag time from when vaccinations start until the first people are fully vaccinated.
Curious how they managed this? I know Boris did go all fascist on the population.
Predominantly Astra Zeneca and Pfizef
It was managed by an early, rapid and comprehensive vaccination programme.
