I saw a letter from Mary Gates thanking Phyllis Campbell, the CEO of US Bank of Washington, for “100% participation” in their campaign. I checked my paystubs and no deduction was ever taken so I can only assume that someone in management donated in my name or else they fudged the numbers to make it appear that everyone signed up.

I also worked for a large bank that wanted everyone to contribute to the United Way, and I know for a fact that the head of our department contributed money from his own pocket on behalf of an employee who absolutely refused to contribute even a dollar.
I remember getting pressured to donate for 100% participation too.
There were a few others who refused to donate and I joined them.
The Army was a good one for forcing us all to contribute, as well. They’d assign some poor schmuk to round the rest of us up to comply.
When forced, I gave the minimum to The Humane Society or some other ‘charity’ that gave money to anyone but people. ;)
Yep - I assume that someone higher up contributed in my name so as to not be the only branch/region that didn’t have full participation.
I know there were others who felt the way I did but gave in and contributed anyway. I look at the state of our country today and wonder what might have happened if more people had pushed back 30 years ago...
