This is not a case of the media manipulating Flynn's words. Flynn heard the crowd cheering what happened in Mynamar, and decided to go along with them, without understanding what he was agreeing with.

The audio in the linked video is clear. Since Flynn has now disowned his own words, it appears that he did not mean to say what he said, but he DID say it. He should not blame the press for accurately reporting his own gaffe. He should admit that he made a mistake and apologize.
