Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday that “D.C. statehood is an idea whose time has come,” and several Democrats lined up on the floor of the upper chamber to argue for making the District the nation’s 51st state.
Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, both Democrats from Maryland, were among those who spoke on behalf of legislation to make D.C. a state.
Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., said he believes “the tide is starting to turn” on statehood legislation, as he spoke in front of a poster board that read “End Taxation Without Representation.”

Only in the fevered brain of crazed leftist would a middling sized city be considered a state.
Actually, I’d prefer to see both of them lose to Republicans...preferably some with some stones.
packing the senate and packing the courts.
Chuck Schumer needs to get packing and leave office.
Begin the process to amend the Constitution then, Chuckie, you stupid sleestack.
Give back to Maryland the part of DC that was taken away, as was done in the nineteenth century for the Virginia part. That would give Maryland another Representative without expanding the Senate.
If the District of Columbia were strongly Republican, politically, would Democrats be all in favor of making the District into a state???
They won’t say it out loud, but you know Democrats/liberals/radicals, privately, are doing calculations in which they anticipate 2 Democrat senators and 1 Democrat representative, in perpetuity, being elected from that District.
No.
DC needs to become a museum for tourists.
Our Congresspeople can easily remotely conference and vote in their home districts rather than travel to Washington like it’s 1789 or something.
Of course, I’m sure our Congresspeople would absolutely dread being around the home folks they are supposed to represent, instead of running off to Washington to hobnob with bartenders and hookers.
DC statehood is ‘an idea whose time has come’
No.
Replacing Chuck Schumer with a Trump Republican is an idea whose time has come.
That’s my view also, when they bring up that the District residents do not have voting representation in Congress. Give back all the residential neighborhoods of Washington DC to Maryland. They would then vote for Maryland senators and would be included in Maryland’s congressional district map.
But the liberals never want to consider this idea.
If they want to make that city a part of a state, they can let Maryland or Virginia annex it. Of course, they’d have to get past the constitution to do it.
My thoughts exactly. It can become a state by becoming part of an existing state. The push to make it “a state” exposes the proponents for what they really want.
Let the states that want to leave Cally and Oregon leave. Enough of this one sided crap.
DC statehood is a stupid idea, which needs to go away.
Furthermore, repeal the 23rd Amendment.
Its an idea of mine: “whose time has come.”
It will never come, because DC is not a state. It is a failing city, that cannot support itself with its own tax revenues. It is a basket case, if you acknowledge the incompetence and corruption of its governance. Idiocy.
Translation: “Two more permanent Democrat Senators is an idea whose time has come.”
Sleazy bastards. Giving those D.C. slimeball denizens statehood would be the biggest conflict of interest in the history of all mankind.
DC is not a state.
Virginia and Maryland are states. Let them vote in those states.
