I wouldn’t trust a robot (or a grocery store order-puller) to select produce or meat, so I’ll continue to go to the store.
“lidar helps out a lot now along with cameras and radar”
Yes, their sensors are getting better and better, along with their motors, batteries, materials, software, and every other component. They even look better.
Special purpose robots can also have special purpose sensors, like x-ray vision. Infrared vision will probably be a routine sensor for general household robots, to detect living things and as a safety issue for hot surfaces or fires.
But at least your post came out alright. Or, well, it all came out. As advertised on the package.
A local DJ was a former auto worker (Detroit) and he said he and all his buddies on the shift had it as a matter of honor to sneak one bottle into every vehicle’s door panel. They knew the buyer would complain someday.
To ponder that, the Japanese were rapidly outstripping the US and millions of American workers were laid off soon after. So why do a stupid stunt?
I never heard your info. about lack of AI to reprogram robots in auto plants. Interesting-—just an interim problem, though.
You mean like trolling?
Heaven forbid people get off the dole and go to work.

You first.
Amazon is hiring lots of automatons for its fulfillment centers. Working conditions tend to be harsh to brutal, unless you are built like a linebacker or robot.
For the most part Fear Republic is anti worker. Not all but many are living up to that GOP stereotype.

Pro automation - check
Pro outsourcing - check
Pro overseas manufacturing - check
Pro Cheap Indian and Mexican Labor Express imported labor - check
Against unemployment - check
Against minimum wage - check
Against education - check (unless it’s self-funded)
So what about all these workers (tens of millions of white and blue-collar workers) displaced by automaton, outsourcing and cheap foreign labor?
Homelessness and tent cities for all?
Or what is the solution?
Ah, bootstraps.
I get automation but the other reasons for cheap labor express destructive rampage has me pissed.
They are working on it.
Change the shelf design and robots could pull the majority of packaged groceries in the near future and restock the shelves.
Dicier would be perishables such as meat, dairy, produce, etc.

I’m pro-automation, but since many of these lower-skilled jobs will go to automation/ robots and other jobs will go to foreigners, what’s left for the American middle class?
I think fast-food chains are the scum of the earth for their unskilled slave wage work, but:
Grill: automated
Cashier: automated (touch screen/ self-pay already installed in most places)
Guess only janitorial and cleaning staff will be needed per store in the future.
Centralized repair and raw food delivery serving multiple stores.
Well if a robot can do it it will get automated. People in low skill jobs and even some high skill jobs will increasingly get replaced with automation. We all see where this is going.
Our local grocery store has deployed a robot it calls ‘Tally’. Tally goes up and down the aisles taking inventory. The human he replaced is still employed at the store doing something else. He (the human) tells my wife he hates Tally and stands in its way whenever he can. I guess he liked his old job.
Along the same lines, about half of the checkout lines are now self checkout, with one employee watching over maybe eight checkout stations. The checkout jobs used to be at least semi-skilled, the checker would have to read the price and key it into the register. Then it became non-skilled—just swipe each item through the scanner.
No doubt the same thing is happening to other low-skilled jobs in fast food, etc. But hey, the minimum wage is going up!
We grow & raise our own, so that part’s no problem. ;)
Must be nice.
B-b-but, there are a bunch of “Amurcans” who can’t find “jahbs.”
Solution? Birth control and not subsidizing bastardy. “A living wage” is a socialist concept.

So is a minimum wage, unemployment, child labor laws and other worker rights concepts brought into law starting in the early 1900s. Let’s remove them all, shall we? No education or jobs retraining as that too are socialist concepts.
Bringing back indented servitude and bonded labor must be high on your to-do list. It must be so unfair that Communist China and the Middle East still practice it and the US can’t.
So screw about 1/3 or more of the workforce, right? According to you, 1/3 of the workforce are bastards and need forced sterilization?
Absolutely no comment about bringing in a half-million foreign workers a year, or sending jobs overseas, both eliminating millions of jobs for Americans each year. Amazing.
A “living wage” has never been government policy or that of the private sector. Agree on limiting legal immigration and enforcing laws against unlawful employment of illegals via universal e-verify. Support tariffs on many things. All other things you mentioned are more for the Bernie Bros if that is your thing.
