Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), formerly Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay and originally Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, is a U.S. Marine Corps facility and air station located on the Mokapu Peninsula of windward O'ahu in the City & County of Honolulu.

For census purposes, the area is demarcated as the Kaneohe Station census-designated place, with a population at the 2010 Census of 9,517. Marine Corps Base Hawaii is home to Marines, sailors, their family members and civilian employees. The United States Marine Corps operates a 7,800-foot runway at the base.

MCBH is home for the 3rd Marine Regiment, Marine Aircraft Group 24, Combat Logistics Battalion 3 (CLB-3) 3rd Radio Battalion, and the Navy's Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 2.

3rd Marines was one of the first combat forces to deploy to Saudi Arabia in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. The regiment, which became known as Task Force Taro in honor of the state and people of Hawaii, became the first American unit to be engaged by Iraqi artillery, rocket and missile fire on January 18, 1991.

They countered the Iraqi supporting attacks by conducting artillery raids into Kuwait as the first ground offensive actions of the war. Task force Taro was instrumental in the recapture of Khafji, was the first unit to advance into Kuwait, conducted the only heliborne assault of the war and secured the Marine Corps' final objective of the war, Kuwait International Airport.

The 3rd Marines has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terror. One of their officers, Stephen J. Boada, was awarded the Silver Star for actions there. He became the first Marine in the regiment and from Hawaii to be awarded one of the major awards for valor since the Vietnam War.

An NCO from 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, Cpl Kristopher Kane, was later awarded a Silver Star for actions during the Second Battle of Fallujah. The Regiment deployed to Afghanistan in late 2008 as Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan (SPMAGTF-A)and became Regimental Combat Team 3 during Operation Khanjar in Helmand Province, and returned to Helmand from late 2009 through May 2010.

HImarinecorpshawaii4

The Commandant announced a new program to forward deploy small maneuvering units called Marine Littoral Regiments to the South Pacific to counter China's aggressive policies in the region. The 3rd Regiment will be first to take part in the program. The Coast Guard could also be a potential partner in this program.

Howdy, lauren.

If the high sitting on top of us the past few days would move out, you’d get a break from the rain and storms y’all have been dealing with. I’d say you’re beyond tired of it all.
Good luck!

Shift into Neutral

Bible in a Year:

And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

1 Kings 19:12

The man ahead of me at the carwash was on a mission. He purposefully strode to the back of his pickup and removed the hitch, so it wouldn’t snag the high-powered rolling brushes. He paid the attendant then pulled onto the automated track—where he left his truck in drive. The attendant shouted after him, “Neutral! Neutral!” but the man’s windows were up and he couldn’t hear. He zipped through the car wash in four seconds flat. His truck barely got wet.

Elijah was on a mission too. He was busy serving God in big ways. He had just defeated the prophets of Baal in a supernatural showdown, which left him drained (see 1 Kings 18:16–39). He needed time in neutral. God brought Elijah to Mount Horeb, where He had appeared to Moses long before. Once again God shook the mountain. But He wasn’t in the rock-shattering wind, earthquake, or raging fire. Instead, God came to Elijah in a gentle whisper. “When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out” to meet God (1 Kings 19:13).

You and I are on a mission. We put our lives in drive to accomplish big things for our Savior. But if we never shift down to neutral, we can zip through life and miss the outpouring of His Spirit. God whispers, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Neutral! Neutral!

Reflect & Pray

How do you slow down to spend time with your Father? Why is time in neutral necessary for driven people?

Father, I am still because You are God.

One of the absolute best Memorial Day tributes about Vietnam done by Glenn Beck.

For Memorial Day, Glenn Beck remembers Vietnam Vets. From the Glenn Beck Show.

They Carried the Weight of the World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PmnF8dms1A

Comment below the video:

“I am not a fan of Beck, but I will give credit where credit is due. In my mind, this is one of the finest tributes to the American G.I. ever composed. To listen to this and not have a tear in your eye is a testimony that you have no soul. My deepest thanks Glenn Beck. I as a Veteran am honored.”

Hey there, radu!

No rain for us. Darn it! And it is heating up. Still 86 outside. Waaaah

Is it still a spa where you are?

Howdy, Kathy.

I hope you took a lunch break out on your deck to enjoy the beautiful day you've had. A couple of the Lake Hood chatters said a few areas in Anchorage reached 70 degrees today!

The skies were very clear this morning and we were able to see Denali in the distance more clearly than we've seen it in a while. Just gorgeous, especially when the cam op zoomed in close.

Well drat. I’d hoped you’d gotten some rain. The weatherfolks shouldn’t have gotten your hopes up.

You aren’t kidding about the thermostat cranking up there this week. Ugh!

Still a sauna here and will be all week. Though the temps will drop back to upper 80s, the slight chances for rain mean the humidity will go up even more. It’ll still feel like low 90s.

MCBH has one of the nicest beaches on Oahu.

Nobody but military and guests will see it though, on the north shore of the peninsula.

We were hoping it would rain, but no dice.

I’m on the monthly Patreon chat with Steve, Misha and some others. It’s fun. We’re talking now about bee/wasp stings. LOL! It’s very random.
