The mayor of St. Louis says having more cops won't prevent crime, and she's used her first month in office to introduce controversial reforms including defunding the police.
Tishaura Jones, who is the first black woman ever elected to serve as mayor of St. Louis, approved a $4million cut in the police budget as her city experienced the highest levels of violent crime in half a century last year.
The 49-year-old Jones assumed office on April 20 after running on a platform that includes an end to St. Louis’ ‘arrest and incarcerate’ model of policing - even as her city outpaced Chicago and Detroit to become the murder capital of America for the sixth straight year last year.

And going to laugh my arse off when sheidiot and St. Louis reap what they have sown too.
Less than 50% white, 7% foreign born. Circling the drain.
Let it burn. Not our problem.
Demographics are destiny. Sadly, most of the USA is going hardcore the same way as St Louis.
Between this gal and Chicago’s ding a ling mayor they should think again about hiring a woman for this job. They’re both nuts!
Can’t hardly believe the utter stupidity of officials today.....
The can of worms is coming over our southern border from all over the 3rd world and these lame brains are opposing the police? Stupid is as stupid does.
It’s nice that she wants to send drug users to treatment. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work unless they want it for themselves. If they don’t, they’ll relapse as soon as they get out, or replace their preferred substance with another.
Things don’t become so just because you’d like them to.
I have been looking for new digs for the past couple of months but I’m not the only one looking to get out of STL.
Daniel 5 tells the story of the Babylonian ruler Belshazzar, a rich and debauched king, who gave a banquet to his court. During the drunken party, the sacred vessels from the Jewish temple, stolen by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC, were used in a blasphemous manner. At the height of the festivities, a man’s hand was seen writing on the wall the mysterious words “mene mene tekel upharsin” (verse 25). The king was terrified. But no one could understand what the words meant. All attempts at interpretation by Belshazzar’s wise men failed until the prophet Daniel was called in.
Daniel was one of the captives from Judah brought to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel was given wisdom from God to read and translate the words, which meant “numbered, numbered, weighed, divided.”
Daniel told the king, “Here is what these words mean: Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians”
For these Democratically devastated cities and states may be given to others for their gross mismanagement and the powers that they have there may be no more.
Drove thru St. Louis back in the day. Wanted a picture of the arch with the water in front. Ventured into East St. Louis. Got the shot and made it out alive. I consider it a once in a lifetime opportunity.
She wants to EXPORT her prisoners to the outlying suburban city jails that have vacancies. So she wants to close her prison and let the outside St. Louis Mayors deal with her treacherous lot.
Just turn them loose. They can't do much more damage than the mayorette has already done. Besides they are only there because of racism or something equally "not their fault." And if they are loosed they will vote Democrat.

Right; never mind “defund the police” - just defund the cities (which many of us do a little bit just by avoiding them).
What do you know.... another Canadian.....
No, but having fewer Feral Animals does... but everyone has a hissy fit when one is put down.
The purpose of the police is not to prevent crime but to respond to it.
Though it is true, someone may be less likely to rob a bank filled with police, we generally cannot stop people from misbehaving, unless you want a tyrannical police state.
Thinking the police are there to prevent crime is a lefty concept - part of their justification for taking guns away, thinking it will “prevent”.
She is correct...executions reduce the need for prisons and crime simultaneously...
St. Louis saw a drop of 3,242 people in the past year, the largest decrease in the region, pushing its total population below 300,000 for the first time since the mid-1800s. May 5, 2021. I wonder why?
