The apparent reason for the denial is even more gutting.

Niazy acknowledged in the 2017 interview that as a 9-year-old boy, he gave armed members of the Taliban bread to eat. He says the act was a simple way to try to protect his family.

“They threatened us that ‘we will burn your house, we will kill you’ and they were doing it because that’s what all we have seen and that’s what all I am witness of,” he said.

But that moment he described to an interviewer appears to have been the automatic red flag of offering aid to a foreign terrorist organization.
