Just a touch of perspective....
This was a HS Senior dating a 9th grader. They had sex. Whoops she got pregnant.
That is wrong, I am NOT approving it. But that is not the kind of mistake that prohibits you from being a productive member of society for the rest of your life. He made a big mistake as a teenager.
In this case, he tried to do what he thought was the right thing and married the girl. It didn’t last. Nothing indicates he had anything to do with her suicide.
The media sets up a red herring that any Republican must be cleaner than Jesus Christ. When you find out they are not, their sin is so egregious (no matter what it is) that they are not worthy to breathe air, much less hold public office.
A Democrat can do pretty much anything they want, but there is no condemnation nor even questioning by the media.
The hypocrisy is staggering.
He married the girl for three years and divorced.
He raised his son (now apparently in some difficulty) and is not abandoning his responsibility.
I'm 73 and on the public school board, that hated my exposing them, discovered a felony I committed in 1969 (drunk, stupid and no, I won't tell you) that they threatened to send a letter to the AG of Pa and I resigned (at age 67 (I think) to prevent the commies from affecting my new second wife not yet a citizen (she is now).
I FULLY understand this and support him.
The idea that a 14 year old girl could not (cannot) willingly consent to sexual intercourse did not make its way into the legal code until fairly recently. Inserting the age differential into the codes is even more recent.
Perhaps Wyoming is unique, but in most states if you want to run for office - you file the papers, pay the fees and/or gather enough signatures to get on the ballot. Unless he is filling an appointed seat, he has been previously elected by Wyoming voters - not the party.
I don't know if some here are projecting or reacting to something terrible that happened to someone you love - but nothing I see in the article or have read in the comments thus far supports the ideas of rape or trauma or anything that would “cause” the wife's later suicide.
Remember being 18 and seeing 14-year-olds? They look like little kids. That’s who this person had sex with.
Nobody has a right to be elected. We are talking about whether this man, in view of this disclosure, provides the best chance of getting rid of Notso Thin Lizzy. We are not talking about “ruining” his life. If not getting the job you want ‘ruins your life’ well you might want to take another look at what you really value. Now, here there are a lot of questions. Were 18 & 14 really the relevant ages (got to check the birth dates)? Where is the child today and what does he say? How about her parents? Who raised the child after the mother killed herself, and why? Unless there are happy answers to all of these questions, why IMO the sensible option would be to find another candidate.
BILL CLINTON: “Heh. Hold muh beer.”
Is this sleaze bag really the best the republican party has to offer? What kind of world do we live in that accepts an 18 year old man having sex with a 14 year old child.Go ahead and support this loser. It will just hasten the demise of this sleazy joke of a political party.
Next.
Boy, some of the posters on here are really judgemental!
I was a 15 year old virgin when I met my current husband-he was 18. This was back in the 80’s also. Small town life. We are happily married and I never felt like a victim!
“Wyoming state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican who has emerged as one of the most high-profile primary challengers to Rep. Liz Cheney, said in a Facebook Live video Thursday he impregnated a 14-year-old girl when he was 18.”
________________
Of course the Dems and media will try to destroy Bouchard because he is not gay. Hopefully Bouchard stays in and gets rid of carpetbagger Liz.
Knowing few people go to the jump - why didn’t you include a few more paragraphs - giving both side. Not just the one that helps that witch Liz Cheney?
How much is Liz paying him to “oppose” her?
