EXCLUSIVE: 'It's become an outdoor psychiatric ward!' How California's scenic Venice Beach has become a homeless hotspot with tent cities, violent crime and rampant drug use pushing families and tourists out
UK Daily Mail ^ | May 19, 2021 | Martin Gould and Sandra Clark

Wearing a blue hoodie emblazoned with a picture of Marilyn Monroe, scowling, middle-aged Betty was deeply engrossed in a conversation with herself.

Suddenly a mother and her teenage daughter rounded the bend on the beachfront bike path, and Betty, for no apparent reason, picked up an eight-inch square piece of plywood and hurled it, taking aim at the front wheel of the mom’s cycle, nearly causing her to come crashing down on to the pavement.

Welcome to Venice Beach, California.

HA HA!!! I wonder how many of the posh residents hosted or attended fundraisers for Leftist politicians who allowed this to happen.

They paved paradise, and put up a homeless lot.

I’ve been there. It is awful and very sad at what has been allowed to happen.

But this is communist leadership. The communist leaders do not go there, so this is good enough for the masses.

This quote from the article is why I don’t feel sorry for these residents there. Not one bit:

“Most residents in ultra-liberal Venice are kind to the homeless, he said. Volunteer groups such as Drive-By Do-Gooders help out bringing food, water, feminine products and tarps to make life a little bit more comfortable.”

Like Mel the cop told Frank Lopez after Lopez appealed to him to do something......”it’s your tree Frank, you’re sitting in it.” Something like that. They both ended up dead but Ernie got a job out of it.....LOL

Good. If it’s bad, and happening in NY or CA, it makes me smile.

Native Californian, born and raised in SoCal. Moved to Arizona 26 years ago and, even though most of my family is still there, I rarely visit.

Went to San Diego last weekend for mostly shopping (tropical trees), and couldn't wait to leave. It isn't the beautiful California I grew up in. The geography and weather are the same, but the place has become a mass of frantic and unhappy people and a trash heap of homeless camps.

California has always been the land of fruits and nuts. As the old joke goes “when the continent tilts, anything loose ends up in California.” The lunatics now govern the otherwise beautiful, fertile, rich place.

As a 40+ year resident of the Soviet of Washington, I share your sentiments. We’ve always been a state that was left of center, mostly because of the Scandinavian influence of the early settlers. However when I moved here there was still a blue collar work ethic and it was a good mix of characters that made the area very unique. Not anymore.

Seattle and the entire 3 county area I call Pugetopolis, has become no go areas. Especially if you’re not armed. I never venture over there, haven’t for 15 years.

It’s a damn shame. You used to be able to walk anywhere in Seattle at anytime of the night and day and not fear for your life or step over and around crap and comatose people and their dogs.

How people can still vote democRAT in this area shows there is much mental illness in America. The RATS own this, we must never allow them to spin their way out of this.

Yep. Went to a military school in San Diego about ten years ago and I could see it then. The Gaslight District was awesome, but I noticed there was a lot of homeless folks running around. Can’t even imagine what it looks like now.

I recall walking the streets of Venice on Halloween night, 1976, distributing door hangers reading, “Even the Great Pumpkin is voting for Dornan.” A few days later, “B-1 Bob” Dornan, a fiery conservative, won his election for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Today, that same district, which has just about the same boundaries, is represented by Ted Lieu, who is just slightly to the right of AOC.

Living in Western Pennsylvania, I remember hearing about people going to California and it seemed like a paradise.

Same here, with same observations. Funny how the bobsled to Hell coincided with ever-increasing tax rates. One of the most beautiful states in the nation, with fantastic seaports, agriculture, schools, highways, parks, timber, oil, tourism, manufacturing, higher education, etc. has become a shell of its former self. My town, once an absolute jewel, is now crawling with mentally ill vagrants crapping all over our downtown and once beautiful parks. Oh, and needles everywhere, too.

This is exactly what happened an area in Caracas, Venezuela called Litoral (& many more I am sure, but I am very familiar with this area). It was a weekend destination for affluent residents from Caracas. Once the Socialist took over, “informal land development” took over and it now looks like well, Venice Beach!

This is what happens when you crack down on cults.

Wouldn't many these people be better off sober and toiling in the commune fields for something overarching purpose? Instead they're drugged up, living in the streets, and chase only the highs of illicit drugs.

It was a real paradise from around the mid 19th century until the mid 20th. When too many people settle in paradise it becomes hell, no matter how pleasant the weather.

” Living in Western Pennsylvania, I remember hearing about people going to California and it seemed like a paradise.”

It was before they all moved there. After WWII it was honest workers and vets looking for work and to start families. But then the wanna-be movie stars and hippies flowed in. Then the other states started sending their nuts and criminals. Now they’re running the place and it’s become a dump, especially the once beautiful cities like San Diego and San Francisco.
