PHOENIX - The Phoenix City Council has voted 5-4 to establish the Office of Accountability and Transparency, a board that would provide civilian oversight of police.
"The OAT will have the ability to have independent investigations and will create greater transparency for the Phoenix Police Department," Vice Mayor Carlos Garcia said.
It would also monitor or participate in investigations of members of the department, provide recommendations for training, policy, hiring practices, disciplinary actions, and other oversight on behalf of the community.
"We are making a powerful commitment to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the people of Phoenix," said Mayor Kate Gallego in a statement. "Today’s creation of the Office of Accountability and Transparency is an enormous positive step – alongside many others – that we have recently taken to improve accountability."
Activists have said the civilian review board is something the city has needed for a long time, while critics have called it an attack on police.

“What Phoenix did today, was approve the most radical, extremist, and anti-police plan in the entire country. Today’s vote was not about acting for accountability or transparency, but handing over unlimited power to hate groups.
The defund the police movement is the real deal here in Phoenix. The vast majority of the community supports the police versus this small group of 100 people. These radical anti-police protesters will not stop until they have destroyed the foundations of law and order in our city.
I am so angry and embarrassed for our hardworking police officers, who put their lives on the line every day to protect us. Mark my words, we will lose even more officers and put citizens lives in danger.”
And fill the board with the usual Communist and white hating leftist puppets.
Yup, pretty much says it all. People need to take back the power from the out-of-touch elites.
They need a City Council Review Board.
We already have a cop shortage in the City of Phoenix, let’s make it worse
Phoenix is becoming a cesspool because of this mayor and council.
And a rubber stamp that says: “______________”
Sure is and crime is up, up, up!
Bad idea
And.....I quit! ,I quit, I quit...I quit!
Atlas Shrugged. The DA’s let the slime back on the street and the cops have to deal with it in the aftermath.
A Soros funded group tried to have the same thing set up in the next town over. It was widely publicized and criticized and the turnout against it was so overwhelming that the little cabal of Marxists never even showed up to make their presentation.
This is a bad thing. I’ve seen this in Illinois, and it doesn’t end well.
By-by Phoenix.
That is what the illegal alien invasion is all about. And our brainwashed kids vote them right along with the illegals. Communists, traitors, democrats, but I repeat myself.
I would call it a Police CITIZEN Review Board, seeing as how the police are civilian law enforcement.
Criminal and crime protection board. We have one in Nashville. They are filled with anti-White racist Stalinazi cop haters who question everything the police do to enforce the law. They should be summarily outlawed everywhere.
What about when legitimately corrupt cops are in question?
Asking for a friend...
Had to explain how the police in general have been under unwarranted attack by the media (and Biden's masters) so have gone paranoid defensive in their approach trying to do their jobs. The recent rise of irrational attacks on policemen during pull-overs (thank you St. Floyd /s/) justifies their caution. And though 90% of those were black the cops have to ignore that and regard EVERYONE a potential threat.
So sucks to be in law enforcement these days.
Unfortunately, that’s not what these “boards” are after. They want to nail (White) cops in the midst of catching (non-White) perps in criminal acts and punishing/destroying them for it.
