Land Commissioner George P. Bush is sending strong signals that he’s preparing to launch a primary challenge against Attorney General Ken Paxton, hoping it can center on Paxton’s legal troubles and how he has run his office.
But can Bush keep former President Donald Trump out of it — both figuratively and literally?
It is one of the most glaring questions as the foundation is laid for what could be Texas’ marquee statewide primary next year. Both men have been Trump supporters, but Bush has a unique history with the former president as the most prominent member of the Bush political dynasty to embrace Trump. And in recent months, Paxton has grown only more overt in his affiliation with the former president, making him an inevitable topic in Paxton’s reelection bid.
Bush has insisted there is “no separation” between him and Paxton when it comes to supporting Trump. But even some of Bush’s supporters concede that, fair or not, Bush would have to contend with running with a last name that still evokes strong emotions among Trump backers.

No more Bush’s
Didn’t he just recently make a very clear statement of respect for...admiration of...President Trump?
Hell naw.
He sure as hell won’t be getting my vote. The Bush’s had plenty of chances to get it right...it’s just over their heads to do so.
As to his ‘support’ of Trump. It’s not a hard call when you’re running, but it doesn’t mean crap about governing. His blood is horribly tainted by his relatives, relatives who only seem to know how to attack Republicans (and not just Trump), but can never find anything to say about Democrats, other than good things.
And I won’t even mention his plans to ‘modernize’ The Alamo, to show ‘both sides’.
I don’t normally contribute to campaigns outside of my area but I might would to help beat down another sorry ass bush.

That’s what Bushes do. They lie for gain.
They were all pretty much pro-choice but they would claim the other just to get elected. All their women were pro-choice. They’re all globalists.
Being a Bush doesn’t mean someone should inherit political power. Enough of them.
No more Bushes. No more Clintons. No more Cheneys. Stop it with the family stuff. We don’t need to have an aristocracy in the US. It is the worst form of establishment. Remember that when Eric Trump runs for office too. Nothing against the man, but one form of establishment isn’t better than another.
No more Bushes.
No more hereditary officeholders.
George P Bush is just running for higher office and will do nothing if elected. Ken Paxton has done a great job, and if he runs again I will vote for him, Bush nope, not going to vote for him. Bush needs to go away and get a real job.
No way I vote for Bush. If he defeats Paxton in a primary he still will not get my vote.
It's called posing.
And his grandfather said unequivocally “read my lips, no new taxes.” How’d that work out?
Why not run for Prosecutor General of the State of Chihuahua?
That’s his country.
Arbusto the Lesser has no love for the descendants of the Alamo.
History’s replete with aristocracies, even in the US. We’ve had the Randolphs, the Clintons (George and DeWitt, not Bill and Hillary), the Harrisons, the Lees, the Adamses, the Harrisons, the Roosevelts, the Tafts, the Bushes, the Kennedys, the Sununus.
It’s not unusual to get into the same business as your father or uncle.
The problem with aristocratic families is that the first two generations can be pretty good (such as the Adamses and Tafts) but the following generations totally suck and are just trying to get ahead on their names. The Kennedy grandkids were a joke, Governor Taft is in prison, etc.
John Adams wrote extensively on this.
It’s cute how the young RINOs pretend to be conservatives. The older, more established RINOs simply say “hold your nose or you get a Democrat.”
I wouldn’t think AG Paxton would need Trump’s help to beat George P. Bush.
“It’s cute how the young RINOs pretend to be conservatives.”
Yeah. Does anybody think that a George Bush as Attorney General (whose father is Jeb!) would enforce laws against illegal immigration.
To the contrary, a George Bush in such an office would help to turn the state blue.
Nice try, little oligarch!
