The one thing that causes me to believe this is possible: Politicians doing absolutely STUPID stuff the last few years. I’ve learned that if someone is doing something that makes no sense, it could mean they are motivated by knowledge I don’t have, but they do.
The times are so weird that I’m convinced that the Lord really is returning any day, or these stories are true.
In fact, it could be both.

Face it, if their was any truth to there being alien encounters, the Left would have seen it as another justification for the collective to seize control - just like they did with Covid.
