House Republicans Elect Elise Stefanik As Conference Chair After Ousting Liz Cheney

House Republicans voted Friday to elect New York Rep. Elise Stefanik to the conference chair position after ousting Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney.

Stefanik was elected to be the third-ranking House Republican after Cheney was removed from her leadership position by a voice vote Wednesday. Behind closed doors, Republicans voted Cheney out as the third-ranking House Republican. Texas Rep. Chip Roy came in second place with 46 votes.

“I’m truly honored and humbled to earn the support of my colleagues to serve as House Republican Conference Chair. House Republicans are united in our focus to fight on behalf of the American people to save our country from the radical Socialist Democrat agenda of President Biden and Nancy Pelosi,” Stefanik said in a statement after the vote.

“I also want to thank President Trump for his support, he is a critical part of our Republican team,” Stefanik said shortly after being elected House GOP conference chair.

Former President Donald Trump slammed Cheney throughout the week, saying she should be ousted from House leadership and replaced by Stefanik. (RELATED: Trump Calls On GOP To Oust Cheney From House Leadership, Put In Stefanik)

After the vote, Trump released a statement, congratulating Stefanik.

“Congratulations to Elise Stefanik for her Big and Overwhelming victory! The House GOP is united and the Make America Great Again movement is Strong!,” Trump said in the statement.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy sent a letter on Monday to Republicans in Congress, saying there will be a vote to replace Cheney, which occurred Tuesday morning. “Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday,” McCarthy wrote in the letter.

Cheney, who is up for reelection in 2022, has continued to face criticism for voting in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump. The Wyoming Republican Party censured her in February over her impeachment vote.

Since impeachment, Cheney has continued to be vocal about her disdain of the former president. McCarthy criticized Cheney before a Tuesday interview, saying she has “real problems.”

He learned from his misjudging.
He’s still the best for America and the world IMO!

GO TRUMP!

There is a question making the rounds on the conservative sites. This is what people are questioning, how long before she criticizes MTG? I say I give her a week and then she’s going to start slamming Miss Greene. If she even dares to go that route consider her cooked!

His policies are what we need.
His endorsements do not reflect his policies.
His endorsement of Micro Rubio in this next elections says he hasn’t learned not to endorse those who have made careers out of the opposite of MAGA.

Article says Roy came in second with 46 votes, 212 - 46 = 166 (presuming all voted)

134 voted to oust Cheney this week, while 145 voted to keep her in February.

We still have a leadership team in the House of ALL Bush League Republicans.

Exactly! Unfortunately I will stand next to my remark that this nomination was a huge mistake. I do not know why Trump keeps endorsing these kind of backstabbing weasels but I am guessing that he had no choice. It was either getting rid of Chaney or keeping her if he did not endorse this RINO! Her voting record gives her away. Give it time and she will become the darling of the left. Remember how happy we were when Paul Ryan retired and was replaced by McCarthy only to see he is a bigger stabbing lying idiot weasel coward. He was such a big mistake as well. But overall I hope that I am wrong. But her voting record speaks volumes!

I hope we don’t hear anything from her. She should do her job and that’s it. When was the last 3rd in line of the house heard from? I cant name one 3rd in line person from the last 30 years. It’s insane how much attention was given to this useless position. Two would have to drop dead before they are in charge. Give me a break. Shut up and work!!!!!!

WHAT A CHANGE!!! Has Liz been able to utter a sentence without the word ‘Trump’ in it, in the past 5 months?

I do think most here aren’t familiar with Stefinik’s history on Impeachment of Trump.

She was simply CRUSHING THE DEMOCRATS on that and, quite possibly, kept Trump from getting convicted.

While I agree she could be more Brim and Firestone in the ‘conservative movement’, I do think just about everyone here would be hard-pressed to find a better defender of Trump, particularly when Trump’s back was really against the wall.

Glad that Cheney was removed, but not completely on board with Stefanik as the replacement. The GOP in NY is pretty weak and probably corrupt, and I've seen very little from Stefanik that makes me think that she is different from the rest of NY's RINO pack.
