Continuing a worrisome trend, the New York Yankees played shortstop Gleyber Torres on the Covid-19 injured list today. The fully-vaccinated player thus becomes the eighth team member to contract the coronavirus after being fully vacccinated.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention only reports patients that have been hospitalized or died in so-called “breakthrough” cases of those who contact the virus even after being vaccinated. The CDC claims that a “small percentage” of people are expected to contract Covid-19 even after being vaccinated.
INTERESTING
Did they ALL receive J and J shots?
Be interesting to know which vaccines they each got. It’s starting to sound like they’re pretty worthless, especially if you’re in close quarters with others — like the stat that showed the spread in households was much worse than anywhere else. 8 out of 26, so far, isn’t good...
Is there anyone on the team that is in the control group?
Or is everyone on the team a volunteer in the grand experiment?
8 vaccine failures in a group of about 25. I’d call that a failure.
Should have gotten vaccinated twice or something.
I would like to see reliable data on the re-infection rate on those who contracted and recovered from covid and those who were “breakthroughs” with the vaccine.
There’s probably a reason this data isn’t common knowledge. “Just get the jab!”
... and when they got them.
MAYBE people need to finally stop calling this a “VACCINE”?
Friggin hilarious..........
News is reporting that all eight who are showing positive got the J&J shot. I haven’t seen anything around how effective J&J is at blocking asymptomatic infections. Pfizer blocks 94% of asymptomatic infections and 97% of symptomatic infections.
It’s reported that 7 of the 8 Yankees showing positive are asymptomatic: https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/13/sport/yankees-test-positive-covid/index.html
72% effective.
CDC is now Clown Disease Control
I would like to know if the infected men have symptoms, and how many cycles in the PCR test were necessary to get a positive test.
I also wonder how many infected players were Black or Hispanic since those two groups have the highest infection rate in the USA.
It isn’t 8 out of 26. The 8 include coaches, staff members, and one player. When you consider how many coaches and staff members there are - in addition to the 26 man roster - the numbers start to make more sense. They got the J&J vaccine, which has an advertised 72% efficacy. When you add all the coaches and staff members to the players roster, you’re easily at upwards of 50+ people. 8 guys out of that is 16%, or 84% who haven’t shown up positive. And of the ones who did show up positive, 7 out of the 8 have no symptoms. They’d never even know if they hadn’t gotten tested.
In other words, this is exactly as expected, but people are manipulating it to push a narrative that doesn’t fit reality.
1 out of the 8 infected has symptoms. The other 7 do not.
I read that this player also had Covid in the off season, then got vaccinated, and now he has Covid again. Triple whammy.
Can’t tell from the article if the others were vaccinated or not - just Torres
That efficacy number is typically going to be against developing moderate or severe illness. I’m talking about neutralizing immunity. We have data on that from Israel for Pfizer demonstrating it blocks 94% of asymptomatic infections and 97% of symptomatic infections. I don’t have data for J&J to that detail. If it exists, I haven’t seen it. The clinical trials weren’t designed to test that specific question.
85 % of the team has been vaccinated. I know the 3rd base coach was and he’s also one of the infected.
Thanks for the details. Makes more sense now, especially knowing they got the J&J vaccine.
