California Fleeing: Democrats delude themselves about why their state is losing people
American Thinker ^ | 05/10/2021 | Monica Showalter

The 2020 Census results are a complete embarrassment to California's ruling Democrats.

Despite opening the floodgates to millions of illegal aliens, making the state the home to one out of four foreigners who break into the country without authorization, the state has made substandard gains in population over the last decade.

The population that the state did gain over the last decade was well below the 7.4% national average, according to the New York Times, and really bad compared to places like number-one Texas.  As a result, the state is losing a congressional seat, for the first time in its 170-year history.  It's happening despite the 6.1% gain because the number of congressional seats is capped at 435.  Any state that gains a seat does so at the expense of another.  Hello, California.

That's a significant reversal, because until now, California's story has always been about growth, with Census data often showing that its population had doubled

Worse still, the population has gone negative, not merely substandard in growth, just in the past year.  Residents are voting with their feet.

According to Breitbart News:

California's population declined by more than 182,000 people last year, marking the first time in the state's history that it has experienced a year-over-year loss.

State officials said Friday that California's population slid 0.46 percent to slightly under 39.5 million people between January 2020 and January 2021, the Associated Press reported.

Yet despite these embarrassing numbers, brought on by one-party leftist rule in California, state officials delude themselves that it's nothing to do with their policies.  Breitbart notes:

State officials chalk off the declining population over the past year to a declining birth rate, reductions in international immigration, and deaths from the coronavirus.

BS. Most of the ones leaving are the ones who don’t like what’s going on and they know why. There aren’t enough liberals in America to move everywhere and be the majority, there just aren’t.

Really? Are we to believe Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona, and Oregon and Washington all turned deep blue on their own?

What lie? Progressives bring their political illness with them wherever they go.

If progressives are fleeing high tax States they’re gonna end up trying to screw up where they move to.

“Great... 182,000, many of whom are infesting other states with their virulent leftist ideology.”

This knee-jerk BS is wrong. Few of the leftys are leaving. It’s the conservatives and moderates who are leaving. And they are going to like the places they are moving into.

“TX has had Kalifornica invaders for 20 years and look what they’ve turned the state into.”

If this bull was true, liberals would be the vast majority in America.

They aren’t, and they can’t just move to every state and take it over. They don’t have the numbers.

I’ve lived in CA for 27 years straight and also have no plans to leave. My husband and I have great jobs, and most of our extended families are here. We have roots here—my husband is a 6th generation Californian! We hate the politics but stay and fight. Great weather is very important to us, and I don’t choose to cede this beautiful state to the left.

It was getting crowded in CA, if truly some are leaving (per the census they are), then maybe that will help with the traffic. But houses still sell in minutes here for thousands over asking, so I don’t see a true mass exodus.

Notably, though, although I have two teens, neither is in the CA public school system anymore, due to closures and continued wokeness. One is in a conservative Christian high school, and the other is homeschooled.

They are conservative from where they left, not to where they end up.

I have seen it play out up close. A family moves in from a blue state, and then start trying to change the new town to be more like “back home”.

I assume low property tax rates make that an easy decision..

When you lie to everyone else for a living, it’s easy to lie to oneself.

I vote against any tax increase I ever see on any ballot—but yes, Prop 13 means that our property taxes don’t rise much over the years.

BS? Then maybe you can offer an alternative explanation as to how CO, NV, NM and AZ in recent years and WA and OR before them went blue. All six of those states suffered from influxes of people from Cali, who radically changed the electoral landscape.

I’m pretty sure Trump lost the battle to not count illegals on the census, so that net loss figure comes AFTER you count all the illegals who have come into California in the last ten years, so the number of California CITIZENS who have fled must be much higher.

Most of these states turned blue from endless waves of ignorant peasants from Latin America.

I spent some time out in costal LA a few years ago. 3 bedroom crap shacks with an ocean view were selling for ~$1.5M. A long time resident might have a property tax of $2K, but someone that just moved in next door has $20K tax bill. That will keep the riff·raff out.
