Hubby was born there but he gets no respect from Hawaiians either, lol.
Can you really tell the difference between a Hawaiian and a Micronesian? Both Pacific island minorities, right?
I knew a group of young Micronesian men in the ‘70’s. They were in Eugene, Or, going to college.
They each said that violence was endemic even then between rival gangs and even clans or tribes. They had to learn to fight with knives as teens, to protect themselves.
1) They are from different islands, therefore are not "fellow islanders" but potentially deadly rivals.
2) These notions of "brown solidarity" exist primarily in the minds of white liberal journalists.
Very interesting. It appears that the racism in question is coming from other Pacific Islanders, not haoles who couldn’t tell a Micronesian from a Melanesian from a Polynesian from a Guatemalan.
Secondly, the young man was actively perpetrating a crime, one of a long series of crimes, and it’s difficult to believe he was shot because of his race.
When we lived in Hawaii 1968-71, we lived off-base, our kids were young so they did fine in school, but older haole kids were often bullied.
We heard of several instances where military families sent their high school age kids back to the mainland to live with relatives. They couldn’t afford to send their children to exclusive private schools such as Punahou where Obama attended.
Lol. Try being white!
I’ve lived in Hawaii some 21 years now. I gave up long ago trying to figure out the races and the mixes, but I have noticed when one group doesn’t want to “Assimilate” into the Hawaii Aloha “culture”. Tongans are especially disliked. perhaps it is their “screw everybody” not from Tonga attitude.
Even though Hawaii has a very mixed population. There are still “rules”. I know a man who was a Millwright at a now defunct Coal fired electricity generation facility. He was thinking of changing his last name to that of his Japanese wife, as the predominate electric provider on my island won’t hire someone with a Haole last name. You can’t prove it, but it exists.
Chuk was called Truk in WW2.
Considering the multiple 10,000s of tons of unexploded Japanese heavy munitions (Artillery & mortar shells, torpedoes, landmines, naval shells) on the bottom of the harbor at Chuk. I’d leave too. Look up “The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot” for the history of the battle that put all that stuff there.
BTW, Guamians don’t really like the Chukese either.
People in Hawaii don’t like the Micronesians because they do most of the crime, are welfare dependent, and a financial burden on the Hawaii taxpayer. They were invited in by George Bush.
Hawaiians ( and locals ) are racist against whites.
They are not racist against Blacks, most of whom are in the military.
Oh FFS. Hawaii is a melting pots of melted pots. There is open racism toward whites and blacks by the locals. I should know.
I’d be fine with 49 states.
How many Hawaiians are in Hawaii?
Not that many.
Hawaiians are about the most racist people in the US. Them and Black Nationalists.
Among countries, everyone’s racist. And Latin Americans despise each other. Mexicans HATE Cubans. Puerto Ricans hate Columbians. Etc.
