Waiving COVID Patents: A Step to Socialism
American Thinker.com ^ | May 19, 2021 | João Lemos Esteves

America's credibility and strength are not a partisan matter or even up for political debate — when America loses, the American people loses. When America's respectability is weakened internationally, the American democracy suffers.

After the disastrous — and very unfortunate for the American people — job reports of last month, President Biden decided to give a golden opportunity to European countries and the European Union (as an organization) to humiliate the USA.

Recently, the land of creativity, innovation, the free market, self-determination, and individual ingenuity seemed to have turned into the land of coercion and government control in the international arena. For the first time, the country that created the system that (with its flaws and merits) allowed social mobility, freedom, and hope in the unlimited boundaries of human capabilities appeared worldwide as a socialist country.

I am referring to the Joe Biden's administration's announcement of its support for the waiving of COVID vaccine patents. Even European countries — the most socialist ones — are refusing this proposal. And the irony is that the European countries turned the Biden administration's suggestion away in a convention held in Oporto, Portugal about a "Pledge for a Social Europe." The European leaders pledged to enhance the so-called "European social model" despite the fact that they had rejected the Biden administration's idea of waiving patents for the COVID-19 vaccines.

Quite ironically: The socialist European countries rejected an idea supported by the current U.S. administration basically because...it is too radical. Only the political parties in Europe that support regimes such as those in Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and Communist China are cheering Biden's announcement. Thus, Joe Biden, with this amateur and reckless move, undermined American leadership of the Free World. This must not happen again.

Today's Rat Party absolutely despises everything about this country and wants to “fundamentally transform” it. Those who controlling Harris/Biden see the next 1.5 years as a golden opportunity to achieve what they just barely failed to achieve in ‘09 and ‘10.

This is not waiving. Words have meanings, and this is not the meaning of “waive.” This is illegally taking away a right. The drug companies have the right to earn a profit from their work. The government does not have the right to cancel that right.

They are implementing communism one step at a time! Under communism there is no right to the means of production. The government owns them all.

This is, or was, a free market economy. People and companies invested money, produced a product, sold it, and made a profit. The democrats hate that and are moving us into communism without mentioning the word.

Notice how they usurp the meaning of a word for their purposes. They use a nice-sounding word to mask their true intentions. Waive is a voluntary agreement to not demand one’s rights, or a benevolent decree that frees a person from an obligation. This is neither.

Puppet man and horizontal Harris would love to turn this country communist during their reign.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I would think that the legal protection enjoyed by these pharmaceutical firms against civil lawsuits over their vaccines ought to have some kind of trade-off for them.

I think there’s something missed here. The prevailing thinking is that by “waiving” patent rights; we would somehow make the vaccines cheaper and more available to other countries.

This is debatable, perhaps even doubtful.

To manufacture these vaccines, even with the intellectual property of the patent holders, will require huge investments in plant / equipment / and storage facilities.

It’s not that they would be cheaper, or even more available, but that the nationalized pharmaceutical manufacturers of other countries could cash in on the distribution of vaccines.

Joe Biden, with this amateur and reckless move....

Nothing about this proposal is amateur or reckless. It is exactly what the communists and Marxists surrounding Biden want.

The drug companies like some of their rights. But other of their rights they use their fascist agreements with Fedzilla to make sure they cannot be sued.

So they are very capitalist when it comes to getting paid. They are not so capitalist when it comes to being open to lawsuits for the damage they cause. Then they become happy government protectees.
